Talk about counter-productive. Most of the map is Glasgow, and it's far and away the most heavily used part of the system, yet there's no effort to make a map for Glasgow, like any other city would have.
Assuming that the first map accurately reflected traffic flows, this was a tragedy. A similar thing occured here in Melbourne, Australia, but I won't pull the diagrams out now.

Surprisingly few subways on the Jersey side, and surprisingly few connections from there to Manhattan.

NYC is one big city that is and was the core of the metropolitan area. On the Jersey side it's smaller cities (several in just that pic) which was less dense and there's the Hudson river. It's a big river. Those are some of the main reasons for what you mention, Silly_Walks.

There's politics in this too. A project that would have allowed trains from several New Jersey lines to go directly to Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan, instead of terminating at Hoboken on the western shore of the Hudson River, was canceled by New Jersey's Republican governor after 600 million dollars already spent. Reasons given are considered shady.

The big river I understand, but if another subway tunnel was built, perhaps more to the north and running through parts of the Jersey side, the proximity in travel time would make it more dense because more people would like to live that close to Manhattan for lower prices.
Or at least that was my though process.

Here is a zone map of Copenhagen, there is no difference on Metro, S.-train, Local trains and commuter trains on this map because its used to calculate the price for a trip.
In this case its the price when travelling from the airport.

3 future rail links are not included on this map.

Copenhagen Ringsted high speed line that starts from Ny Ellebjerg, then runs parallel to the Bay of Køge Line with a distance between a few 100m meters north of Ølby to a few kilometres at the inner part of the line.

At a point between Ølby and Jersie and Lille Skensved it it will run west towards Ringsted that are not located on this map but are located somewhere southwest of Borup in the outer left of this map.

Ring 3 Light rail that starts east of Lyngby Lokal, then passes, Lyngby, Buddinge, Herlev, Glostrup and Vallensbæk before ending at Ishøj.

City Circle line (Metro) the outer points in this circle clockwise are just south of Ryparken, Østerport, Kongens Nytorv, København H, Frederiksberg, Nørrebro and finally back at the station south of Ryparken.

Metro map with the future circle line.

S train map without the metro lines.

Yeah, I saw this panorama and couldn't help myself from adding the train lines. I think I messed up the red lines, though.

Not long before that yellow line joins up those two blue ones.

Here is map of Copenhagen to suplement my recent post with current, UC and future rail lines in Copenhagen.

The yellow line is the light rail system that has just been funded and waiting to go into construction phase.

The red line is S-train.

The blue line is the Metro.
The line from Ny ellebjerg to the circle line is only under study.
The loop north of v/Orientkaj is only a proposal and so its the line from København H to v/Prags Boulevard.

The green lines are commuter and intercity trains.
There is a minor mistake, Near Køge (in the south of the map) the commuter trains will cross the S-trains between Ølby and Køge Nord and not between Ølby and Køge.

All the dotted lines are either under construction or in study.

Some other future projects are not included on this map.

The S-train will probably be extended from Høje Taastrup to Roskilde when the new Copenhagen - Ringsted line (the green dotted line) because there is 4 tracks between Høje Taastrup and Roskilde and the proposal is to let the S-train take over the 2 northern tracks.

The S-train will probably also take over the Kystbanen (Øresund train) commuter line between Klampenborg and Helsingør.

Where the Øresund train from Sweden will terminate is unsure but Østerport or Klampenborg is very likely.
