Quite an undertaking, it entails road re-alignment and extensive expropriation at the landside. Even more extensive than Tacloban.

Correct me but as far as what I have known , Surigao is the only domestic airport in the country with three taxiways leading to the tarmac!

It won't go that far though. The apron is already standard. So is the airport strip width. But eventually some 30 years from now they may have to relocate apron to the south for expansion purposes, unless by some miracles Surigao suddenly becomes the next Boracay in which case we might see the improvements in the next 10 years.

What was presented was the ideal set up.

Here is what I said almost a year ago

I thought the yellow( road realignment) and the blue(taxiway, apron,PTB,parking) is the scope of development; so you are saying only runway extension? The overlays appear to be the same as Tacloban. Although tarffic numbers doesn't warrant it at the moment, I was thinking DOTC is now initiating lot acquisition before urban sprawl starts to creep.

Land acquisitions are currently ongoing. But you cannot buy them all in one scoop.

Of course not, I mean not that you can't but buying one big parcel also entails one large amount which can be a challenge to pay; Pagadian airport just gave us that timely example of the consequences arising from land expropriations. Hopefully DOTC will do a clean act this time for Surigao.

AFAIK they are buying the land for the new apron. The apron really have to be relocated because of its close proximity to the runway. Keep in mind the current Tagbilaran Apron.

Correct. And the summer weather helps SUG. Else, travelers will have to fly BXU for the moment. Been trapped for four days waiting for a flight into SUG last Jan 2013. They always tell us "bad weather' or "low ceiling", etc.
