A few weeks ago we got our hands on a leaked rendering of Vancouver’s most daring architectural proposal by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) architects. There is now more known about the project, thanks to Jlousa at SSP.com for sending this out, as an application to rezone the site has been received by the city of Vancouver:

Seriously, does 3XN only have one facade-model/texture in their toolbox?! It doesn't seem to be much of a job being a architect there, when all they seem to do is design a box and apply the same damn facade as the project before, and the one before that, and the one before that. I find it bland a boring.
Although in that particular spot in Stockholm it would probably light up a bit, since the other buildings are pretty "brown" and 70's.

Bjarke Ingels Group goes supertall:

TIANJIN | Rose Rock International Finance Center | 588m | 1929ft | App

[QUOTE]JUN 29TH, 2012 - BIG DESIGNS SUPERTALL HIGHRISE IN TIANJIN
Quote:
Bjarke Ingels, architect of mountains, now has set his eyes on Everest. The New York and Copenhagen-based architect’s firm BIG has been tapped by the Rockefellers to design one of the world’s tallest buildings at 1,929 feet for a new commercial development in Tianjin, China, a city of nearly 13 million people. Ingels revealed a cryptic, fog-shrouded rendering of the tower on his web site—indicative of the scarcity of detail yet released on the tower—but this being the information age, AN found more information and views of the tower on a clear day.

Christmas quiz:

Which of the following images is NOT a rendering for Bjarke Ingels' pPhoenix Observation Tower ?

More images here:

http://www.designboom.com/architectu...rvation-tower/

Quote:
It seems that developers in Phoenix, Arizona wanted to get in on the Bjarke Ingels craze, and they certainly got in on it. Bjarke’s firm BIG has been commissioned to design a mixed-use observation tower in downtown Phoenix, for which they have proposed an instant icon of sorts, a spherical spiraling ramp propped high atop a singular piloti like an oversized lollipop, towering 420 feet above the Valley of the Sun. As the project description specifies, “the Pin” consists of a reinforced concrete core and an open-air spiral sphere, which will contain commercial and recreational spaces and, of course, panoramic views abound. Ingels cites Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum rotunda as a reference, hoping to bring the same motion-setting mechanism to Phoenix, though lest we forget, the 20th-century architect already has a famous (but imperiled) spiraling ramp in Phoenix.

If anyone's loking for one of those unpaid internships, Bjarke Ingels Group might have some openings, having won another 800,000 sqm project - the Europa City mall-meets-landscape project outside Paris. The other firms in the competition were Manuelle Gautrand, Valode & Pistre and Snohetta.
