Sheffield Skybar

I think maybe it's time for Sheffield to have it's own Skybar.

I'm not the kind of person to post on such things but i would be willing so other SSC users can see how great our city is.

Use this area to introduce yourself, talk about Sheffield and the events that are happening/happened here. Your experiences of Sheffield and just other general stuff that you think maybe of interest to others.

I hope we haven't already got one of these but could we make this a sticky like the Mancs have?

Anyway,

I'm gary, I'm 19 and work at Sheffield Hallam University. It may not be relevent but i know for sure there are many gay people on here and i'm one of them!

God knows how i found this site but i am very patriotic towards my home city of Sheffield and want to know everything that's going on here - that's my main reason of using this site.

I used to be in the Air Training Corps hence the reason of my username.

Who's next?

I like it gary, it's nice to know something about these mysterious building site enthusiasts.

my name's adam, one half of the hotly tipped sheffield band 'adam and james' (see link in the sig) and a student of transport and product design at coventry university.

i've lived in sheffield all my life. i was born in the lovely nether edge hospital, moved about 200m down the road and i've not moved house since. like most other people here i feel a strong tie to sheffield and it's awesome to see it transforming at the rate it is.

i've spent some time in hong kong recently (studying product design at university there) and so i got the chance to marvel at some insane building sites but somehow they're just not as interesting as those in sheffield. i guess it's something to do with seeing what is so familiar to you change into something so new. i love it.

go sheffield!

now go ahead and look at the adam and james myspace. i'm sure you'll enjoy the sheffield based music videos (city centre building sites, roneys the butcher and abbeydale tesco).

I'm Dean, 23 and have recently moved back to Corby having been at Sheff Hallam for 3 yrs doin Town Planning. Still at Hallam part time doing the masters and will be there on Monday in fact.

In the three years I lived in Sheff I loved it. Lived in Fitzalan Square and near Bramall Lane, so never too far from town - saved myself a fortune in taxis by walking to most places. Even walking back home alone at 2am, never faced any trouble. Miss the nightlife mostly.

Its a bloody nightmare to drive in Sheffield though, and I was once caught in a traffic jam and ended up taking about 3.5 hours to do an 8 mile journey.

And the reason for being called dinp? Well look at the top line of the keyboard. O is next to P and i made a typo one day and decided to stick with it.

Me

Hi there

I'm Adam (hence the name), and live in the lovely Broomhill where I have lived for the last 5 years (apart from one year living in Chicago for uni), 3 of the years I studied Town Planning at Sheffield University and now I have graduated I work for Rotherham Council in Development Control.

I was born at Jessops exactly 24 years ago tomorrow, and lived in Dinnington (out in the sticks) until I moved to uni.

I think it seems quite strange how many gay guys there are on this site too, and I am another one! Absolutely love the site and I am so in love with my city all my friends take the mickey, but I don't care Sheffield is great.

Happy Birthday Adamblade.

I am AndrewC(odling). I have a Myspace with all my details on it. The link is my signature, don't make me type it all up again.

Right, first topic, why is Look North such a Leeds Biased pile of crap, and how funny is the look of pain and hatred on Harry's face when he has to pretend he likes football full stop let alone Sheffield football?

Happy birthday aswell Adamblade.

I'm Paul (surprisingly) and Im 18 and live in Sheffield. I can't really be bothered to say much else.

I found it funny that Look North had a whole article about McFly comming to Leeds, when they play about 4 times a year in Sheffield I swear. (Same with Robbie Williams, except he doesn't play so often in Sheffield.)

And I think we should get this thread stickyfied. Anyone know how?

I've already asked for this to be done! Don't know how long it takes though!

In the next six months Meatloaf, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Dolly Parton, Pink, Lionel Ritchie and Justin Timberlake will all be performing in Sheffield yet this wont even get a mention on Look Leeds.

There's no reason to mention them, cause it's not actually news.

But as soon a 1 big name comes to Leeds it gets on the show.

I never watch Look North - problem solved.

Reading the Telegraph every week gives me all the info on Sheffield I need. There's always the Sheffield Forum as well.

Bloody hell, I hope so!

I'm Lewis (duh...) and everyone here is younger than I thought!

I'm 22, born in Worksop and lived in Sheffield until I was 3. In '87 we moved to the Isle of Wight, leaving for 2 years from '92-'94 to live in Germany (Paderborn to be precise). Came back to the Island for 6 months because my dad got a job in Harpenden, Hertfordshire and was looking for a house, then we moved to Pitstone in Buckinghamshire.

I came back to Sheffield in 2002 to start my degree in medicine at Sheffield Uni. My mum always moans that it took her 30 year to get out of Sheffield, and now me and my sister have both come back for uni!

Oh and Adam - you got Gateway into the song! How retro of you

Happy belated birthday Adam.

My name is steve, I am a 37 year old electronics engineer. I have lived in sheffield all my life, after being born in nether edge hospital in the "summer of '69" - thanks Bryan! .... and I have some enthusiasm for buildings and transport, which is why I participate in this forum. I was brought up in hillsborough, but have lived in woodseats for the past 13 or 14 years. And I am a graduate from Sheffield Hallam, but in those days it was still the poly.

The name muddycoffee was given to me by Captain Winscale when I played bass in the Winscale band in 1996. I have been a musician all my life and have played in a great deal of different types of rock band and in my youth I was a brass player and played in brass and wind bands.
Nowadays I play Organ in the 2 hats ( the twats ) we are a funky organ and wah guitar driven band.. the twats myspace

I also study spanish, and am currently in the last year of A level, I plan to start learning German next, so each decade of my remaining life I plan to learn another language, so that when I retire I can seemlessly travel around lots of countries while speaking like a native!. I ride a noisy motorcycle, and I love travelling but who doesn't?
I also have been writing and publishing daft web pages since about 1998. My complaints about caravans and not having enough bank holidays regularly result in me being interviewed on drive time on local radio stations across the country. I invented the stuff about Henderson's relish being the nectar of the gods and having all kinds of other uses like trombone grease etc.. Thanks to Richard Hawley for taking my campaign to the world..

I have a myspace too here
