People need to come out of their predefined mind set. I mean everyone is repeating the same list. IMO chicago has good CBD but then its flat outside. Most asian cities have skyscrapers in suburbs as well as satellite cities. Eg Mumbai you can easily find sea of 25+ floor buildings in any distant suburbs with many over 40 floors. There will easily be more than 25 skylines in Mumbai metropolitain region which very few cities can rival.

IMO only non Asian city that deserves to be in top 10 is NY(Dubai I am considering as Asian city). None of Eurpoean cities except say Moscow can be in top 20.

Note I am giving more preference to Height and Density.

there has to be a mixture of Height and density as well as number of skylines with points divided in some proportion. Just one parameter will not work.
We can bring one more parameter - looks or beauty of skyscrapers.

Thus we can have say -
1) number of buildings >70 meters ->30%
2) Density ->20%
3) Number of buildings more than 200 meters - > 30%
4) Beauty of skyscrapers - 20%

Thus Kuala Lampur will score in beauty but fail in others, Sau paolo will score in density and may be -number of skylines but fail in height, Dubai will score in Height but fail in density etc. Lets see which city gets most score, but for that the databases like emporis should be upto date, they are hugely outdated for asian cities atleast for Mumbai I am sure

I imagine people are already using a mix of criteria in arriving at their decisions.

Why would people need to redefine how they view a skyline? You see the same cities listed from list to list because people like those skylines. Not everyone is going to like a swath of high rises like one finds in Bangkok or Tokyo. To many, a well defined central cluster is what makes a skyline beautiful.

Yes certain sites do define skyline based on some parameters but that is based on outdated data. I mean In mumbai metro region you will easily get more than 1000 buildings > 20 floors.but the list does not even have 10 % of them so the rating is low.

I do not say people redefine a view on skyline but its just a view with or without knowing developments in the world (which is almost immpossible to know as skylines on almost all major cities are changing fast). So unless there are set of parameters and an agency doing it and on updated data we cannot get official result and also these results have ability to influence other peoples decision as now they have data in front of them. Without data most peoples views are limited to the same cities which can be considered as top cities say in 1990's or 2000 but not now.

To me Mumbai should be in top 10

Hills make some skylines look taller.

Spires can raise the statistics but sometimes don't help the aesthetics or feeling of height.

A "sea" of highrises might not be visible from the ground. A skyline is about the view, not what's hidden behind it.

The topic suggests "best" not "biggest".

In other words, stats aren't the biggest thing.
