They do since their road systems are clogged to the max. Need a better bus system to ease the traffic congestions all over the island. Connectivity is key, oh, and dedicated bus lanes too.

Rapid Penang To Add 200 New Buses By End 2014

GEORGE TOWN, July 22 (Bernama) -- Rapid Penang is expected to add another 200 new buses in stages by end 2014 to improve the public transportation system in the state.

Rapid Penang Chief Operation Officer Mohd Shukri Abdul Rahman said the first stage will see 80 new buses added to the service by end of this year and the rest added next year.

"Next year we hope to add 120 new buses, including 40 double-decker buses in efforts to service new routes. Currently Rapid Penang has 316 buses plying 46 routes throughout Penang," he told reporters, here, Monday.

He added that on July 27, Rapid Penang would introduce a new route - Route 103 - that will pass through Komtar, Jalan Burma, Jalan Kelawai, Jalan Bagan Jermal, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Jalan Larut and Lebih Lintang.

That means indeed, Rapid Penang getting more Scania buses.

http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...#ixzz2a25ga8BH

Commenting on the operations in Penang, Zohari said RapidPenang would have 400 reliable buses by end-2014 to provide a full and efficient public transport service for Penangites.

He said RapidPenang would add another 200 new European-made buses, of which the first 80 units are expected to arrive before year-end, and the rest by the end of next year.

Zohari said of the 120 buses, 40 units would be double-decker buses, adding, it was an exclusive ride offered for Penangites.-- Bernama

Wow! That piece of news about Penang getting double decker buses was from way back in 2010!! I guess we have many many liars in this country that only give empty promises.

That's why I think that the Penang government should take over the bus services: or even better start one that competes with RapidPenang. I have confidence that they can do better to serve Penangites. They have to because they want their votes.

Double decker buses are in fact shorter than regular buses, so if regular RapidPenang buses can run along those roads, the double deckers should have no problem. Your concern should be: Are the utility wirings and shophouse awnings/signs obstacles for the double decker buses?

No "RapidPenang" words inscribed on the new buses? Perhaps these can be easily transferred to Kuantan at the whims of the directors.
