Nice to hear that the bridge will be build AND that my thread wont disappear .

Please visit my other mega-über-project thread about the longest rail tunnel in the world (Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland) in the urban transport section.

Europe kicks ass!

It is cancelled or it'll be build?

Tecnically governement 'suspended' the project (to suspend a suspension bridge is quite funny though...)
Part of the gvt coalition wanted the bridge to be deleted and part wanted the bridge to be built: but they all announced that to build the bridge is not prioritarian (I think that the ones who wants the bridge but say it's not prioritarian do that only for political reasons: not to have problems with their political allies and bacause during the years, for many in some way strange reasons, the 'political message' you gave in being "for" the bridge to be built was to be pro-Berlusconi, and to be against the bridge meant to be against Berlusconi.... how insane politicians can be!)

Well. So they used the money previously allocated (by Berlusconi) for the bridge to build other "more useful" (definition of the governement) infrastructures for Southern Italy; I didn't understand yet where the money will be spent though, apart for the completion of A3 highway (I thought it was financed yet...) and other two secondarian road links that hardly I see as 'prioritarian'

Officially, then, the bridge is not financed...
But, as i said several posts ago, strangely the government (with part of the money allocated for the bridge) authorized who won the competition for its costruction to build the preparatory works

Very very strange

I have this interpretation: if the project for the costruction of the bridge wouldn't be suspended, now they're going to build the preparatory works and in a coupple of years (minimum) they will start the 'true' build-up of the suspension bridge (it's a very complex and enormous project: the preparation needs to be long)
On the contrary they said they suspended the project: so what did happen?
Now they're going to build the preparatory works (the same!)
Then it could be that in a coupple of years (when political reasons for the sospension won't exist anymore or something) they will finance again the bridge and start with the true works
Exactly the same as they kept on with the project
They were a little bit tricky for political reasons and for a 'public opinion' matter, but actually, for now, they're building the bridge just in time as forecasted

Obviously that's only my interpretation, a sort of overlook behind the scenes.
Things could carry out in another direction

It's very very complicated and full of uncertainty: it's Italian policy nowadays. Sorry

Actually there's lots of suspension bridges bigger than the Golden Gate bridge, including the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge in New York, which is America's largest.

I love this bridge. It is good to see extreme engineering projects still going on in all parts of the world. Fantastic. I hope some our friendly Italian forumers can create a construction thread and take photos of it being built.

Sorry RSG, maybe you can't read the above, but sadly this bridge is not happening anytime soon.

Tell Prodi, actually the italian president, why he got enslaved by his same coalition members, the extreme ideologism of Communists and Greens.
As i noticed, i got ashamed about my State. Where just are we gonna go in the next future ?

Yes, Berlusconi and his mafiosi (Cuffaro, Miccichè, etc.) were way better.
By the way, have you seen the special report on the bridge project made by... Report, the Italian state tv program? It explained very well how the feasibility studies were insufficient and ultimately fake (let's remember the bridge is supposed to be built in a highly seismic area).

I won't spend more time to explain to Noobz how efficient is the Enginery, origins apart. Many Bridges were built around the world, even in Japan (Akashi/Kaykio Bridge) and Greece (Rion-AntiRion Bridge) in Very Sismic Areas.
I got enough about excuses and worthless rumors about "insufficient studies" for the Bridge. And We know it's buildable... nuff said.
This sort of language is utterly unacceptable

Please keep politics out of this thread, too
