A sacred place like this should have its own unique tower and not a over-sized copy of the big ben ... I'm just saying

Didn't they realize in the modern world most people have a clock in their I-phone ?...but then, gives them something to look at ? Look around...my goodness...If I was there I think I would just walk in circles with my head down...OH...they do that really ? I am saying this from the reality perspective not anything religious because I believe anyone is free to believe anything !

How many different ways can you make a clock tower?

It isn't about a "clock tower", it is about a "tall tower" ... And I am sure ther is lots of ways to make it unique and not looking like big ben on steroids if their intention was "the clock" part.

the top is completely different than big ben, this one has a spire big ben has a roof. the only real other way you could make a clock tower would be by implementing a digital clock like federation tower, but that's not the way of keeping the architecture traditional. they use traditional architecture with modern elements and did a goo job with all these details i think.

You guys, I don't think they were trying to "copy" Big Ben.

Remember, Muslims pray up to five times a day at very specific intervals (and the times change daily). It makes sense to have a clock around when millions upon millions of people are visiting and living, at perhaps the holiest place in all of Islam, a place at which all Muslims, regardless of where they are in the World, must face during prayer. All, at the same time. Time. It's a symbol.

At least that's my take on it.

The only thing I don't care for is the offset you see when viewing it from the sides. I think they, pulled it off! Being that usually builders get cheap half way through and kill structures with classical features.

I see why some hate this building and it's not the building at all! It's because of what was there before... The Ajyad Fortress was an Ottoman citadel which stood on a hill overlooking the Grand Mosque of Mecca. Built in the late 18th century, it was destroyed by the Saudi government in 2002 for commercial development of the Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower, sparking a Turkish and international outcry!

By the way, the only thing this tower has in common with Big Ben is a clock and some green lighting. Other than those two, they look completely different. If you want to hate on a building that actually looks just like Big Ben go to the Al Yaqoub Tower forum.

Sorry I simple cannot like this new look of Mecca.

Anyway in a few years the Salafis will probably ban the Hajj and claim it's shirk, wouldn't surprise me.

It seems like your intention is merely to insult.

There are enough travelers who can afford the accommodations to easily fill the hotel. For people who can't afford it, there are other hotels. That's the same situation as every city in the world. Also, is a city of millions of people supposed to not have shopping malls? Again, that's the same as every comparable city in the world.
