Curious why do they skip PK-GIB? Would it be same reason why LH skipped D-ABYB with their B748i fleet?

That's either LN 1141 or 1142, which means Lufthansa's first 777 freighter (LN 1144) is now on the main assembly line.

i don't think so, because if it's the reason, the one that they should avoid is PK-GIE (Garuda Indonesia Flight 865), not the PK-GIB. AFAIK, they had no fatal records with the last aircraft that used it's registration.

It's strange to know that today almost every airline in Indonesia has avoid the suffix 'B' in their fleet registration including Indonesia AirAsia (while their parent company in Malaysia has no problem with it) and Lion Air, so don't be surprised if you can't find any aircraft in Indonesia that use the PK-xxB registration. The latter even have more strict rules because AFAIK they had avoided many suffix such as A, B, C, D, E, N (Lion Air Flight 538), and X in their fleet registration and it applies to all of their subsidiaries (Malindo, Batik, and Wings).

i think LH avoid the D-ABYB registration because of this: Lufthansa Flight 540. There are no relation with bad luck or so because they still use B as a suffix for every aircraft they have, except that 748 one...

so that's why yesterday i see a part of LH logo when i'm still confused why the 77W that i believed will go to GA (based on the window 'configuration') has a different colour for its rudder (I was hoping they will paint it with Skyteam livery back then ).

here is the photo.

That's because the management of Garuda Indonesia (as well as some leading Indonesian airlines) believe that letter "B" resemble number "13", the number which is widely regarded as unlucky.

Although there are some airlines that doesn't believe in this.

In LH case the registration was avoided due to the history of that particular registration.

As already quoted and I confirmed with my Indonesian gf, B = 13 so that answers the question

So sad to see some early generation Boeing 777 meet its fate.

Considering that even the prototype of Boeing 777 is still flying. (With Cathay Pacific as B-HNL)
