After the end of the route study in November 2013, the bidding can be started in mid 2014 so the construction can be started in 2015 and the line will be opened around December 2018. Monorail must be 80 kph max even though the cruising speed is 35 kph

MRTA making an explicit message that yellow line and pink line monorail have to be done by MRTA - and standardize the rolling stock to the point to allow MRTA to purchase the assembly line for monorails to run MRTA yellow line and pink line monorail by demanding for at least 291 monorail carriages ...

Note: MRTA insisting that those who live along Lad Phrao road to accept monorail despite of the fact that those who live along Lad Phrao road demand the new yellow Subway.

Alstom to carry out Bangkok’s Green Line Extension

28/08/2013

:Alstom has been awarded by Ch. Karnchang Public Company Limited, one of Thailand’s leading general contractors and basic infrastructure designer, a contract worth €14 million to extend Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand’s (MRTA) existing Green Line. Alstom will participate in the works to design and build the trackwork and the third rail power collector from Bearing to Samutpakran Station as well as the 48 acre depot that will house 40×3 car trains intended to circulate on the extended line.

The extension will add nine stations from Bearing to Samutpakran at a total length of 12.6km and aims to carry up to 57,000 passengers per day. The project is set to begin construction at the end of 2014 and completed in 2017.

This project is part of Thailand’s program to improve its public transport infrastructure and better address the growing traffic congestion issues. With more than 3 million cars and nearly 3 million motorcycles in Bangkok1, the Thai government has decided to invest Bt2.2trillion (€52.7 billion) in infrastructure development programmes which results in 55 projects2 of which 31 (representing 64% of the budget) will be dedicated to Rail transport. The extension of the green line is part of the program led by the Thai government.

The Green Line, better known as the Sukhumvit Line, currently extends from Mo Chit, located close to the popular Chatuchak Weekend Market to Bearing in the Bang Na District. The extended line will enable more residents of the city of Bankgok to opt for a safer, cleaner mode of transport.

Dominique Pouliquen, Senior Vice President of Alstom Transport Asia Pacific declares “We are excited to take a key role in the development of Thailand’s transport infrastructure. The confidence shown in Alstom, backed by what we have delivered for the blue line, is a true testament to our technology and expertise and further consolidates our position as the leading metro system provider in Asia.

I'm a little lost.

Does Bangkok already have a monorail? I didn't think it did but maybe I'm wrong.

As far as monorails, how many lines are under construction and/or planned? Also what are the capacity PPHPD of these lines or station sizes?. Thanks.

Thanks for the info.

It's amazing how many cities in the world have recently shelved their elevated Metros for Monorails and with good reason. Monorails have equal capacity as Metros but are far more urban friendly having much smaller support structures, far less shawdowing, quieter due to rubber tires, and easier and cheaper to build as much is built off site.

They are finally getting the respect they are due.

According to the news article

http://www.bangkokpost.com/opinion/o...ransit-network

it says that they are adding 410km of network.

But the plan from MOF

http://www.mof.go.th/home/Pr/fpo_Roadmap.pdf

on page 24 shows a breakdown of the lines, with a total of 265km added.

So how much are they really adding?

those number are mass transit line build by central goverment.
-265 km is under construction/planned line to be completed before 2019
-410 km is total length of mass transit line in 2019

actually they didn't include mass transit line proposed by BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration) which mostly are monorail line.(grey line ,light blue line and others)
and next year. grey line monorail (26 km) will be under construction soon.

if they included central goverment line + bma line it would be ....
- 290+ km. will be completed before 2019
- 440+ km. is total length before 2019

now there are numberous proposed line which mostly are extened from current line and feeder monorail line but those line will be complete after 2020+ as you can see from my singature.

I see. They only have about 80km of lines now though. So if they are adding 265km of lines, that would mean the total would be about 345km of lines in 2019?

265 km. are lines that have detail design completely and ready to build anytime

the missing 65 km are line that under fesible study. (orange line taling chan-cultural center part ,dark red line hua lumpong-mahachai for example)

so.. (planning length 265+65=330 km.) + (current length 80 km.) = 410 km.

It's great to see the progress in Bangkok, but please don't put 10 000 pictures in one single post. 5 pictures per post is enough.
