Thanks for the info.

It's amazing how many cities in the world have recently shelved their elevated Metros for Monorails and with good reason. Monorails have equal capacity as Metros but are far more urban friendly having much smaller support structures, far less shawdowing, quieter due to rubber tires, and easier and cheaper to build as much is built off site.

They are finally getting the respect they are due.

According to the news article

http://www.bangkokpost.com/opinion/o...ransit-network

it says that they are adding 410km of network.

But the plan from MOF

http://www.mof.go.th/home/Pr/fpo_Roadmap.pdf

on page 24 shows a breakdown of the lines, with a total of 265km added.

So how much are they really adding?

those number are mass transit line build by central goverment.
-265 km is under construction/planned line to be completed before 2019
-410 km is total length of mass transit line in 2019

actually they didn't include mass transit line proposed by BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration) which mostly are monorail line.(grey line ,light blue line and others)
and next year. grey line monorail (26 km) will be under construction soon.

if they included central goverment line + bma line it would be ....
- 290+ km. will be completed before 2019
- 440+ km. is total length before 2019

now there are numberous proposed line which mostly are extened from current line and feeder monorail line but those line will be complete after 2020+ as you can see from my singature.

I see. They only have about 80km of lines now though. So if they are adding 265km of lines, that would mean the total would be about 345km of lines in 2019?

265 km. are lines that have detail design completely and ready to build anytime

the missing 65 km are line that under fesible study. (orange line taling chan-cultural center part ,dark red line hua lumpong-mahachai for example)

so.. (planning length 265+65=330 km.) + (current length 80 km.) = 410 km.

It's great to see the progress in Bangkok, but please don't put 10 000 pictures in one single post. 5 pictures per post is enough.

Japan group to build train system in Bangkok: report
3 November 2013
Agence France Presse

A Japanese consortium will build an urban transit system in Bangkok, as part of Japan's drive to expand exports of railway infrastructure to the rest of Asia, a report said Sunday.

East Japan Railway, trading house Marubeni and electronics giant Toshiba have landed the deal, at an estimated price of around 40 billion yen ($405 million), the business daily Nikkei reported.

Under the deal, ordered by Bangkok Metro Public Co., the consortium will construct a new 23-kilometre (14-mile) rail line in the Thai capital, the daily said, adding the rail operation is set to start in 2016.

The Japanese group will supply 63 train cars and build the power grid, signals and rail yards as well as 16 stations for the project.

It will also provide maintenance services under a 10-year contract and about 20 technicians with operational expertise will be stationed in Bangkok, the report said.

Japanese railway operators are expected to broaden their reach overseas by joining forces with heavy-industry manufacturers and trading houses to promote comprehensive services, Nikkei said.

East Japan Railway will aim now to win a contract to build a high-speed train line between Malaysia and Singapore, the report said.

Another Japanese train operator, Central Japan Railway, has already provided technology for renovating the automatic train control system of Taiwan's super-express train service, Nikkei said.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Metro, which runs an intricate subway network in the Japanese capital, has been cooperating in an urban train project in Hanoi, the daily said.

Airport Rail Link reports rise in passenger number

BANGKOK, 20 November 2013 (NNT) – SRT Electrified Train Company Limited (SRTET), operator of the Airport Rail Link, has made known that the number of passengers using the system in November is at a record high.

SRTET said on November 8, nearly 60,000 passengers boarded the Airport Rail Link. The figure set a new record for the company embattled by years of financial losses. From November 1-17, around 48,000 commuters used the train daily on average.

The company said the increased frequency of train arrivals on the City Line significantly contributed to the rise in passenger numbers.

SRTET plans to triple the current number of customers by procuring 7 more trains. In order to boost revenue, the company is also set to expand check-in services for air passengers at Makkasan Station of the Airport Rail Link next year.
