The design looks so tame, looks like an office built in the 1980s. Too unimpressive or unfitting for the largest economy in Europe.

I like the stile, specially the "Steigenberghotel" and the Airportcity-area:

İLudi

I like the high pillars and the bright stone.

Its simple styled but very inviting i think, especially the terminal with the warm, brown wood.

I wonder if the issues that are preventing BER from starting operations are being taken care of right now...

The airport looks like it's pretty much finished structurally, but not open to operations yet .

Thanks Ludi! Great pics! Was it some kind of simulation or they just allowed people to see the airport? Is there any forecasted date for the beginning of operations?

they just allowed people to see the airport and walk around, some helicopeters flyed around and some new fire fighting trucks was standing there...

Siemens told recently that the airport cant be opend before middle of 2015.

Its really sad that cause of tecnicalproblems with the fire prevention system the airport still nearly ready but cant open.

bureaucracy works slow...

Technical facilities at the stub-end of S-Bahnstation. S-Bahn has approx. 160 m platform at hte north, followed by two 400m ICE platforms at the south, which can accomodate also the airport-express (260m)

escalator-shaft

Southern track towards west

ICE/airport-express-station towards west

ICE/airport-express-station towards east and overview

Maybe I'd draw the airplane symbol next to it.

Great job Ludolf!
Thank you very much for this enormous photo update!

BER is surely the best looking unfinished airport in the world!

Nonsense!
The engineering is fine. The problems are caused by overboarding regulation and by the totally flawed system for public contracts. Too many reguatory bodies trying to have a say in everything. Too many opportunities for NIMBYs to go to court and demand costly changes. Poltiticians making unrealistic demands and having no idea on how to supervise large projects.

Why do you think german civil engineering companies do projects all over the world fast and reliable while it takes ages to build the same at home (on public projects)?

It's the politics, not technology or engineering.

German managers in the construction of the new Pulkovo well-proven. Build quickly and efficiently.

Wow, talk about nationalism.
I would not have minded see Siemens example take a bigger share of building €8.5 billion third generation PWR Olkiluoto 3 nuclear plant that is going to be 6 years late. Thanks to Areva not being up to local building standards.

It's not all so black and white.
