Beautiful! Funny though, some churches remind me of the island of Chiloe.

Wooden architecture can be seen in Lithuanian cities and towns too.
The most interesting examples are situated in Kaunas, Vilnius, Druskininkai, Nida and other places. I will start from some great examples of Vilnius. Later examples from the other cities and towns will be added too.

Quote:
Programme for the Protection of Wooden Architectural Heritage

Building from wood dominated in our region from prehistoric times up to the II half of the XX century. Due to unique character and originality the Lithuanian wooden architectural heritage on the European level can be compared to the Lithuanian baroque. There are approximately 2000 of wooden buildings in Vilnius centre, and 200 of them are registered as protected properties.

The Programme of Primary Works regarding the Protection of Wooden Buildings and their Complexes (Groups) was approved by the Order of Director of Vilnius City Municipal Government Administration. A detailed measuring, photographing and general assessment of the unique wooden buildings (Polocko St. 52, Filaretų St. 8, Baltasis St. 7, Vytauto St. 29, Rūtų St. 6, Čiurlionio St. 33) and the state of the buildings constructions has been performed. Most valuable wooden buildings were selected in different city districts according the criteria of buildings’ architectural value, esthetic impact on local environment and community and localization in relation to intensively visited public institutions or spaces: streets, squares, paths. Since 2005 a part of funds of Vilnius Old Town Revitalisation Programme were alloted to the Programme for the Protection of Wooden Architectural Heritage.

Because the financial difficulties Vilnius municipality faces, the program of the restoration of the wooden heritage slowed down if not stopped.
Many wooden buildings need urgent restoration. We will hope the most impressive will be saved.

The only wooden church of Vilnius is situated in Pavilnys and was built during the Interbellum in so-called Zakopane style of wooden architecture. This style was created by native Lithuanian, who emigrated from Samogitia to Poland, Stanislaw Witkiewicz. There are some great examples of this style in Vilnius too, wooden villas mostly. There are some Switzerland-style wooden villas too.

Now the church of Pavilnys, that was restored very recently.

Restored villa in Žvėrynas district, Central Vilnius.

http://www.ekstrastatyba.lt/lt/proje...e-vilniuje.htm

The district itself has hundreds of wooden buildings.
It hosts many interesting examples. Some of them are restored, while others neglected.

One of the latest discoveries for me was this wooden treasure in the district of Antakalnis, Vilnius. As I've mentioned, not all the houses are in a good shape and restored in Vilnius and this one represents such case.
