History comes alive!

BAHRAIN Fort was dedicated to the nation in a glittering ceremony led by outgoing Islamic Affairs Minister Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al Khalifa yesterday.

The fort was lit up in a ceremony to officially mark its listing as a World Heritage site and its renaming as Qalat Al Bahrain - the Ancient Harbour and Capital of Dilmun.

Information Minister Dr Mohammed Abdul Ghaffar, Information Ministry Assistant Under-Secretary for Culture and National Heritage Shaikha Mai bint Khalifa Al Khalifa

and other officials attended the event.

Hundreds of people turned out to see the fort lit up. The historic landmark was put on the elite Unesco World Heritage list more than a year ago.

Shaikha Mai said Bahrain is aware of the immense responsibility, that has been thrust upon it with the elevation of the fort as a World Heritage site.

"This is a great achievement and we will strive to fulfil our obligations to the world body," she said.

French architect Alain Guilhot designed the lighting while Arcapita Bank has financed the project.

It has also provided financial support for the site museum, which has been designed by Danish architect Claus Wohlert - a specialist in museum design.

I read about this, great news. I hope though that they continue taking full responsibility and not destroy the sea around the site given that there are a few developments going on in the vicinity.

i hope so too B.S. cause this is the best looking fort in bahrain, much better than arad and riffa forts.
