Alfréd Hajós-Tamás Széchy Swimming Complex
(Budapest, Margaret Island - National Swimming and Water Polo Olympic Centre)
New Swimming Complex to Host European Championships
The Alfréd Hajós swimming complex has been regarded as one of the finest swimming pools in the world. Renamed Alfréd Hajós-Tamás Széchy Swimming Pool, in the future it will become one of the most modern ones as well. In the not too distant future, it could even host swimming world championships – which means it will be an ideal home for the European Championships (Budapest, 26 July - 06 August 2006).
The best swimmers, divers and synchronized swimmers of Europe can use the new world-class ten-lane pool, the new, state-of-the-art diving platform and the old 50-metre pool, as well as the open-air and indoor 33-metre pools. There are two fitness rooms, a sauna a medical dispensary and a restaurant in the swimming pool building, and there is seating for between six and eight thousand spectators.
Margaret Island has the benefit being in the heart of a metropolis and yet offering the beauties of a green belt location. To protect the island’s environment, only motorcars with a special permit and public-transport buses are allowed to enter the island.
