ZaH, Me too!! I definitely want to try whilst I'm still in country!! It sounds like a fantastic experience, should provide a great view too!

On a side note, I can see some possible problems with the eye on Malaysia, especially in the Malaysian context.

The windows are quite dark and say hypothetically a couple went on the ride late in the evening, say they were alone in the gondolas, no one else.. its a romantic setting, beautiful skyline, city lights, cool atmosphere, air cond helps soothe the tropical heat, perhaps to the extent that the couple ended up snuggling for warmth.

We don't exactly know how long the ride for eye on Malaysia will go for, but the PM is expected to go on for 45mins if thats any indicator.

Personally, whatever Malaysian kids get up to these days, it doesn't matter for me, their business really, I just hope they'd be smart enough to play it safe and hopefully they'd be considerate enough to clean up the gondolas after they're done (*). :P I'm sure though if signs of lust were ever found inside the gondolas or even the slight remotest possibility for lustful adventures, you can probably expect the Jawi, DBKL and prudes to react. If at all this really becomes a problem.

(*) I've had the unfortunate experience to step on a used condom before at a park similar to titiwangsa in Europe. It was most unpleasant!!

Was at Lake Titiwangsa yesterday.
The entire place is still heavy on construction and refurbishment. Not sure if all the works can be completed by this weekend.

But the Eye on Malaysia is up now. Fantastic view of the wheel with KL skyline in the background. Too bad I didn't have my camera with me.

Will definitely give the wheel a try one day.

Yea...true....true

That place is so inacessible. They shd have it somewhere else....maybe the carpark next to The Troika would be good Then again I dunno how big a spae it needed but I reckon the carpark space is big enuf.

And before anyone starts lecturing me about public transportation - let me tell ya that I have on many occasions taken buses and taxis to Titiwangsa before. Although that was some years back but I think the situation doesn't really improve that much

Safety Comes First For The 'Eye On Malaysia'

January 04, 2007 16:45 PM
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- The largest transportable wheel with air-conditioned gondolas, the 'Eye on Malaysia', has been designed according to the highest safety standards in the world, according to its operator and owner.

Jereon Nijpels, project director of MST AD Suria Sdn Bhd, said the 400-tonne Ferris wheel was built using a combination of technologies from Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, and that the company would ensure the safety of the public and its staff was given top priority.

"We choose our product which is designed and manufactured to the highest safety standards in the world. Those standards are the German and European industry norms. All plans are done according to those norms," he told a media conference on the 'Eye on Malaysia' at Lake Titiwangsa here today.

He said that to ensure compliance with the safety standards, the operator, with the assistance of experts from the German Technical Inspection Authority (TUV), was conducting tests on the wheel and would provide the certification to ensure that it adhered to national and international safety standards.

"We invited TUV to come over and assist in the certification process. We also worked with the local authority, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Dosh)."

Nijpels said the inspection and safety tests started yesterday and hoped that they could be completed by tomorrow morning to get the certificate before its grand launch on Saturday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who will be launching Visit Malaysia Year 2007 (VMY 2007) at Lake Titiwangsa on Saturday, is expected to take the exclusive first ride on the giant wheel.

Meanwhile, MST AD Suria Sdn Bhd executive director Widyanty Yusope said they expected to attract 24,000 people per day to ride the giant wheel when it opens to the public this Sunday from 10am tol 10pm.

She said the company planned to place the wheel permanently at the lake and not just during the VMY 2007 and was still discussing the matter with the Tourism Ministry.

The 'Eye on Malaysia' is the first giant wheel in Malaysia and largest in Southeast Asia, standing at 60m with 42 gondolas, which include 41 regular and one VIP gondola complete with leather seats, DVD player, plasma screen, fridge and glass flooring.

Ticket prices for regular gondolas are RM15 for adults and RM8 for children with special packages for groups. There will be two special gondolas for the disabled with ramps for their wheelchairs.

Besides the 'Eye on Malaysia', which is one of the highlights of VMY 2007, the company also handles the International WaterSky Spectacular event in conjunction with VMY 2007 which will be held at the Lake Gardens.

Is the ferris a permanent structure or a temporary one?If it is a temporary i think the developer should look to a bigger wheel maybe the size of london eye if they want to construct a permanent wheel.

There's a RapidKL bus from KLCC that passes Titiwangsa lake.
