Ancaster

Ancaster is the wealthiest area in Hamilton, and one of the wealthiest communities in Canada.
Its location on the Niagara Escarpment west of Hamilton provides a beautiful setting for many
luxurious homes and the quaint stone village at its core. Ancaster is also home to the Hamilton
Golf and Country Club, which hosted the PGA's Canadian Open last year. I've tried to photograph
some of the nicer residential areas, but as you can imagine, access is restricted to many of the
most impressive properties, which are behind gates and down private laneways.

The tour begins in Ancaster's historic core:

It's a huge resemblance to a combination of St. Jacobs, Ontario and Amherst, New York! Great pics.

Ancaster looks like a nice area. The historic core is pretty nice.

I love that picture of the waterfall!

The Ancaster area has numerous waterfalls... even greater than the one shown.

I love Ancaster. It has so much charm. I kind of feel sorry for the town because it was forced to amalgamate with hamilton. You can literally tell where the boundary is in many spots, suddenly the roads get better, the house quality improves, and yeah.

I live basically on the former border of Ancaster and Hamilton.

Did they change the name extension of Roussieux St. back to Mohawk? It was logically changed after the LINC was built, but I think it was changed back again. Was it?

nope. It is Roussieux St. as far as I know.

would be quite silly to call it Mohawk Rd.

I hate going to Ancaster from that end. You go along Mohawk Rd and wham you're at the Linc and if you stay on the wrong lane you could end up driving towards Toronto on the 403 or keep going you could end up heading towards Brantford. It's a tricky entrance.

Basically to enter Ancaster you have to hop on an expressway.

There is still a sign that says Mohawk Rd. ends/Rousseaux St. begins.

Most of Roussieux was called Mohawk for years after Mohawk was linked to Golf Links Rd. It was originally the same street.

yes I realize that. I live with 2 km of the 403/Linc Interchange. It makes alot of sense back in the day. I find it more confusing now with the Linc constructed than it used to be.
