As it is today, interesting to note that they aren't proposing to remove the residue of the fallen-off render on the right hand building:

Canal Street will now be bringing this area down instead of the other way around. The village needs a major overhaul. It's quickly becoming dated, trashy and a blight on Manchester's streetscape.

And Manchester New Square. Canal Street is ok actually, its the other street (Richmond and Bloom Street) which let the area down not to mention the row of take outs.

Absolutely - and agree with AJD too - some of the surrounding streets (and that elephant in the room that is the Chorlton Street bus station) lets much of the area down.
Akin to doing up your living room then the kitchen starts looking awful.

The street car park, multi-storey car park and coach station will surely have to go in the end. It will only be a matter of time.

It is jrb, but it's looking more long than short term. It's mentione in the HS2 framework to reposition this coach station next to the new 15/16 platforms at Piccadilly. Hopefully they also transfer the Piccadilly mess there too. Opens up two key sites in prime territory, tasty.

I have to agree with the sentiments that Canal Street is indeed trashy and dated.

From the bars and restaurants through to the atmosphere on an average night, it really is stuck in 1994. I'm hoping, really hoping, Kampus will kick it into 2017 and make it a vibrant area of the city able to compete with the Northern Quarter.

Keith, The Village is in Coma and the ventilator is about to to be switched off. Several buildings are being sold to make room for new apartments/town houses/hotels.

Once it is dead, it can undergo a much needed Renaissance and reclaim its former glory.

The Pink pound is being spent elsewhere at the moment...
