As i got the offline news, CRS inspection is planned on 22nd Jan for Edamann - New Ariyankavu section..

Initially SCT to QLN will take 5:00 to 5:30 for all trains and maximum coach capacity is 18 for Exp trains..

Mostly Silambu Exp will be extended upto QLN and will increase the frequency to Daily once extended to QLN..Pothigai Exp will continue as it is upto SCT..

We can expect new KCVL/QLN MS Exp and KCVL KIK Exp as part of MG restoration in this year and Palaruvi Exp will be extended upto TEN/TN..

Lets wait and watch for that day..

Yes, CRS inspection is long-awaited. Hope all goes well. MPS may not be more than 20 kmph to begin with.

Palaruvi extension is good. Will need one more rake and hopefully more than the present ten coaches.

My fear has come true. Silambu express which was originally a train for sivaganga and pudukottai districts to chennai was usurped and extended to far away sengottai. Now this train is going to be extended to kerala's kollam. Varevah. Where is the needhi and nyayam here. Unless pudukottai and sivaganga people get their act together, these district people will remain forever in this precarious situation only. Pudukottai MP seat was taken away, silambu is taken away and district status also will be taken away in near future.

I am not against these places inside TN or in kerala getting trains but the purpose of initiating a train for one region's connectivity to chennai is compromised by these mindless extensions.

General Manager inspects renovation of Shatabdi Express enlisted under ‘Swarn’ Scheme

Indian Railways launched Project ‘Swarn’ for renovation of Premium trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express. In Southern Railway, Chennai Central – Mysuru-Chennai and Chennai Central – Coimbatore – Chennai Central Shatabdi Express trains have been shortlisted under ‘Swarn’ scheme for upgradation. These new refurbished trains will be equipped with state-of-the-art amenities viz., LED lights, Braille signage, HD Wi-Fi, maintenance lock for toilets, CCTV cameras at the coach entrance, to mention a few. The coach exteriors and entrance will sport new looks with Vinyl wrapping.

Shri.R.K.Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway visited Train Care Centre, Basin Bridge today (3rd January, 2018) to review the progress of renovation of coach of Shatabdi Express trains. The General Manager inspected a Shatabdi Coach and took stock of the various amenities provided. While interacting with the Depot Officials, the General Manager instructed that desirable standards for coach renovation must be adhered. Shri. A.K. Kathpal , Chief Mechanical Engineer and officials of Chennai Division accompanied the General Manager.

The date of introduction of the renovated Shatabdi Express trains will be notified later.

Long ago, the Kerala MPs had said that new trains should be introduced, not extension of existing trains. .. In any case, the stop pattern of Silambu is not conducive for QLN-MS travel.

CHENNAI: Under pressure to show high punctuality of trains, railway zones across the country have been quietly fudging data by bypassing an automatic system which would record correct timings and manually entering data to artificially increase punctuality.

This was made clear in a circular issued on December 21 by the Railway Board efficiency and research director to all zonal general managers.

Data logs of arrival and departure of trains is linked to a Control Office Application (COA) at terminals and interchanged through an electronic system brought in four to five years ago. The signal is monitored and train movement recorded


However, at most locations, this system has been made inoperative and the arrival and departure time of trains is entered manually. Indian Railways official punctuality is around 75%, while that of Southern Railway is 84%. For instance, a train may arrive at Chennai Central station 10 minutes late, but the data entry operator may log it as the right time, showing an improved punctuality figure.

The December 21 circular directed zones to compulsorily make the system operative with immediate effect without fearing about the eventual drop in punctuality. The action taken report is to be sent to the board by December 28.

TOI sent this communication to a few Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officers who confirmed that the circular was a tacit admission of punctuality data being boosted by decreasing actual delay of trains. "Many trains wait outside the terminal station at the home signal, but the delay is rarely recorded," one of them said.

In the letter, Southern Railway general manager R K Kulshrestha has asked the chief operations manager and chief signal and telecom engineer to discuss the implications of the direction on the zone's punctuality. He has also asked them to find the impact of wrong logging by other zonal railways on Southern Railway punctuality.

Many passengers travelling on trains have reported this anomaly to railways via Twitter after cross-checking the train's physical location with the arrival/departure data provided on National Train Enquiry System (NTES).Punctuality is a major issue; officials at the division level are questioned by those at the headquarters, who are in turn questioned by the board.

A few years ago, a top official at the Southern Railway headquarters cracked down on this misreporting, which brought punctuality to around 60%. Though hauled up by superiors for poor figures, he stuck to his guns.
An official from the signal department at Southern Railway said the circular was a step in the right direction. "Punctuality figures are also affected due to signal issues. More funds are needed to improve the signalling system. Once realistic figures are out, more funds for these improvements can be demanded," he said.

There should be a separate entity GST corridor formed and implement all following projects:

1. 3rd line between TBM & CGL
2. 4th line between TBM & CGL
3. Elevated expressway between Airport & Paranur
4. 6 laning or service road for existing GST road on ground level..
5. Reserving land for future metro service to Tambaram

This involves railways, SH, NHAI, CG/SG, CMRL to work together.. only a separate entity can bank the land for all project and execute the life line corridor of TN in better way. But hopeless.. every project will hit 10-15 years life time of construction.

CHENNAI: Come March, rail commuters will have a more comfortable travel onboard Chennai-Mysuru Shatabdi Express and Chennai-Coimbatore Shatabdi Express with the Southern Railway beginning work on upgrading the coaches of the two premier trains.

Official sources said the four rakes of Shatabdi trains (40 coaches) are being refurbished to have swanky look with state-of-the-art facilities such as LED lights, Braille signage, HD wi-fi and maintenance lock for toilets. The coach exteriors and entrance will sport new looks with vinyl wrapping and illumination of LED lights, said the sources.

To monitor the entry of vendors and improve the safety of passengers, coach entrances will be covered with CCTV cameras, said an official. The coach upgrade work roughly costs `60 lakh under the project ‘Swarn’ to provide improved passenger amenities for premier trains. The railways had chosen 14 Rajdhani and 15 Shatabdi trains from across country for refurbishing.

The coaches are designed to be equipped with auto janitor system in toilets, faucets, stainless steel washbasins, improved soap dispensers, better quality dustbins and carefully chosen locations for ergonomic convenience. In addition, night signages for easy identification of berths and blanket covers for first class AC passengers will be introduced.

“New design magazine bags with extra pockets for mobile phones in keeping with the changing lifestyle will also be present,” said official sources, adding that three coach pilots would be deputed to get passenger feedback.

Southern Railway General Manager R K Kulshrestha and other officials on Wednesday inspected the refurbishing works at the Basin Bridge yard.

With electrification works on the Tiruchi–Erode broad gauge section via Karur reaching the final stages, diesal engines may soon have to give way to electric locomotives.

The Central Organisation for Railway Electrification (CORE) under the Ministry of Railways, which is executing the overhead electrification works on the 140-km stretch, has targeted to complete the entire works and commissioning by January-end.

The electrification project, which gained momentum in the beginning of this month, is poised for completion in a year’s time — the fastest with respect to completion of OHE works in Southern Railway zone, CORE officials say

Ahead of commissioning, CORE has planned to carry out trial runs on the newly electrified stretch with an electric locomotive before inviting the Commissioner of Railway Safety to carry out the mandatory inspection.

As part of the electrification project, which has been executed at a cost of nearly ₹130 crore, CORE has installed 210 portals and some 3,500 masts along the whole stretch.

Three sub-stations have also been established at Velliyanai, Pugalur and Pettavaithalai as part of the project that kick-started in November 2016. The sub-stations works are in the final stage of completion.

Although the target for completion is set for March, CORE expedited the project and advanced it for completion and commissioning before January.

“The electrification project is in the final stage, and permission for charging the line has been given. The entire works are targeted to be completed and commissioned by January last week”, said a senior CORE official.

Upon carrying out trial runs using a light electric locomotive, CORE has planned to invite the Commissioner of Railway Safety to carry out the statutory inspection along the entire stretch from Tiruchi to Erode, the official added.

Once the sanction from the Commissioner of Railway Safety comes through, electric locomotives will be introduced. At present, all passenger and freight trains operated on this section are being hauled by diesel locomotives.

The Tiruchi–Erode section via Karur will become another electrified stretch after the Chennai–Tiruchi–Madurai segment. Electrification will enable faster acceleration of trains and pave the way for operation of Mainline Electric Multiple Unit trains instead of diesel ones. Electrification works are also simultaneously underway in the Tiruchi–Thanjavur–Tiruvarur–Karaikal and Karur–Salem–Dindigul sections by CORE.

with this almost all routes are covered,

New GC routes Sengottai - Punalur, Karaikkudi - Pattukkottai - Tiruvarur, Tiruturaipoondi - Agasthiampalli (vedaranyam) might be taken up later..

I think Steps are taken to maintain electric loco in GoldenRock workshop as well.
