I think because one expects this sort of streetscape in capital cities ... but then I gather Wiesbaden was a capital (of Hesse) once upon a time. Please continue this beautiful (and to me surprising) thread, Igor.

I see... AFAIK, Wiesbaden still is a capital of Hesse. I can be mistaken, of course.
As for me, Wiesbaden is unexpectedly spacious, I mean it's side roads and lanes are like boulevards, lots of space for pedestrians & greenery.
And balconies! All shapes and sizes... They serve as backyards for locals, these balconies have tables and chairs, a place to relax.

Wiesbaden looks lovely, and also quite affluent. Love the grand boulevard of houses.

When did you visit, I wonder?

In August 2013... It was short-time visit, 4 days, I think.

Wiesbaden (or todays parts of it) was a Nassau residence since the 18. century and the capital of the duchy of Nassau until its annexation by Prussia in 1866. The market church or the city castle (todays Hessian Parliament) were built during that time, but most residential buildings we see originate from times as a prussian province city. Though Wiesbaden was quite a famous Spa and popular among the rich, hence the luxury architecture. It became the capital of modern Hessia only in 1945/6, mostly because it was the only major city in Hessia with minor damage (Unlike Kassel, Frankfurt or Darmstadt)

Beautiful photography!
It seems you've made an extensive tour through the city. Did you stay there overnight?

this is one lovely city with great architecture. I'm inclined to believe this city was spared during the WWII.
