The most posh residential neighborhood in Rochester, NY

The East Avenue area in Rochester is a neighborhood of upscale single family houses, with some apartment houses mixed in, on the east side of the City of Rochester. There are a myriad of streets off of East Avenue that could take hours of exploration to photograph all of them.

Let's start out at Sibley Place.

Prince street runs from East ave to University ave

This is the former library of the Sibley mansion, turned into a single family home. Imagine how big the mansion was.

This is the former Catholic school, turned into Chapel Hill Apartments

Arnold Park has nice smaller homes. It's a one way street with a grassy median in the center.

Looking up Park Ave at the corner of Arnold Park.

Vick Park was the former gardens of one of the larger mansions, and upper-middle class homes were built later on.

Strathallan Park

Portsmouth Terrace is a street on the former gardens of the George Eastman mansion

Barrington Street

Berkeley Street

Buckingham Street

Douglas Street - Every home on this street is amazing.

East Blvd

E. E. Boynton House, by the master architect Frank Lloyd Wright

East Avenue, where the wealthiest Rochesterians built their homes in the past; it continues to be the most prestigious address in Rochester.

The George Eastman mansion, the home of the national photography and film museum, former home of the founder of Kodak.

University Ave, the creative, artsy area of Rochester, home of ArtWalk. ArtWalk features outdoor artwork and galleries for a large stretch of University Ave.

The Memorial Art Gallery

This is Rochester's flatiron building.

While I was walking around, I saw this plate. Rochester pride!

The houses in those pictures vary in size....but I'd say judging by the full range you see there....the price range woul be about $200k-600k

That would be extraordinarily cheap, then, by standards elsewhere in the country. Actually, I had the same thought when I was first looking at your beautiful photos of those gorgeous homes and thought I'd research the MLS in Rochester -- I'll report back what that turns up. (Did I make a mistake by buying a house in Wilmington DE for my repatriation back to the US?)

Some of the homes on East Blvd and Douglas St would fetch close to 1 million dollars, but that would be the most expensive. If these homes were in most larger cities they would be multi-millions.

I know the poster of this thread and I will have him fix the one erred pic on Monday, FYI.

OK, I did take a look at some real estate agency websites and see that house prices in Rochester are low. I guess the thing is, I saw some properties that were big and very quaint looking, but a little disappointing from the back or not very modernised/refurbished inside. Still, very nice old houses in their way and at good prices. I can't wait to make a road trip up that way after we return to the US.

love to see a thread that gives props to the ROC. Doctorjef, you're money in real estate goes a lot farther in both Rochester and Buffalo, than it would in many other places across the US.

The houses look really nice. Quite a few are of a different style than houses found around here.

The first home on Barrington Street is one on my favorites in Rochester. It is too bad this angle doesnt show this home well. This house is so well preserved, gigantic, and really beautiful. It gardens are perfect as well.

Nice pictures and nice houses.

Some of them GREATLY remind me of the houses in Hartford's West End. If I didn't know they were in Rochester before hand, I would have thought that these pics were taken down the street, lol.

This definitely shows that Rochacha is worth living, like their slogan says! How can anyone not like living in beautiful homes and areas like these? Nicely done, jazzmaphone.

Thanks, that's interesting, do you have any links to photos of that neighborhood?

Thanks, Jay. Yeah, this would be an awesome lifestyle. Big, well maintained houses with backyards, quiet streets, and located 1-2 blocks away from the restaurants and cafes on Park Ave and University Ave.
