Ostrava

Ostrava is the third largest city (319 000 inhabitants, metro: 1 165 000) in the Czech Republic. Do not look for any historical town,
it is a modern industrial centre of the whole country and the administrative centre of the Moravian-Silesian region.

You have a funny idea of old in Europe. I see plenty of 'old' here - 100 years? Some nice buildings and places.

Ostrava was industrial heart of 1st republic, and of commie era. Before it was only province town... it has its charm, but future of Ova is in modern structures...

Similar thread is here:

Never mind, Ostrava is so interesting, that 2 threads are still too little.

And there are few pictures of winter in Ostrava (I like it so much):

Hystorické zobrazení a fotky Dolní oblasti Vítkovic:

Celkový pohled z centra Ostravy:

I was in Ostrava in summer 2006, because a friend lives near there (in Frydlant nad Ostravici near Frydek/Mistek) and it was very nice! Like this city!

One of the ugliest cities in CE I have seen, however connection between old, modern and industrial could be interesting..I passed Ostrava by train. It was a heavy rain that time and the only thing which I was able to see far far away were industrial zones and beside it areas of crumbling down commies everywhere around..I feel like to be somewhere in Siberia, it was cool

And..then we came to Katowice and I realized that Ostrava however almost apocalyptical wasn´t that bad...

You should get off the train. Ostrava is not a beautiful city full of ancient monuments or modern architecture, but it's a good place to live.
