The Peak | Westminster | 41m | 9fl

The Abford House redevelopment will further regenerate the Victoria Station area. With 139,932 sq ft of space over 10 floors it will be a tall building by West End standards. The basement and ground floors will house retail space while offices will comprise the 8 floors above.

Sheppard Robson are the architects and the building is being funded by CIS, Heron and AXA Real Estate. External completion is scheduled for late 2008 with occupants moving in early 2009. Marketing is being undertaken by CBRE and DTZ Debenham.

The environmental credentials of the £30 million building are strengthened by incorporating photovoltaics, solar water heating and borehole cooling. 100 cycling spaces will also be provided. Following consulation with the Mayor and TfL the pavement around the previous building footprint will be widened, alleviating pedestrian congestion that is commonplace in the vicinity of Terminus Place.

The forecourt of Victoria Station will be animated by this ten-storey building that is topped off by a dramatic curving roof at the north end. As a result it has been nicknamed the “bonnet”.

All in all, the Peak will greatly improve the Victoria area and will act as a prelude to the huge developments to come in the coming decade. I work next to this building so expect updates from me in the coming months!

To show how demolition has progressed here is a photo that I took of the previous building from the 18F of Portland House back on a gorgeous winter day in February.

At present piling is taking place. I'll post some photos soon.

The view of the rear from the station doesn't look so good a bit bland.

Overall its ok I suppose, but not great.

Thanks dom, interesting building. Are Sheppard Robson and KPF becoming the same firm? Contemporary commercial with a twist. Good to see the ground floor animated with retail (coffee shop anyone?) and they seem to have gone "the extra mile" with the buildings green credentials.
I like the balcony in particular with that curving roof above it, it will be a dramatic space for the workers (I hope).

From Vauxhall Bridge Road looking across the site you can really see the quality of the Victoria Station range of buildings.

Incidently the Victoria Apollo Theatre next door to this building is a bit of an Art Deco gem. Look closely and you’ll find these Charlie Chaplin air vent panels.

Excavation appears to be complete and a surprisingly tall crane is in the process of being erected today.

Here's the new partly assembled crane, courtesy of a mobile through a window so excuse the quality:

Note that it's the same view as dom's from last February in the first post

didn't realise they'd actually started on this one - seem to recall big hole in the ground last time I went past. The boxy back-end is a bit dull, but I'm very much liking the curved hood effect (looks like a cobra?!? sort of).

looks like a nice little development, only 10 floors but looks like the area could do with a shiny glassy building.

Cant wait for this to be completed, I believe it is a big step in the right direction for Victoria, It looks tired and needs a lift, with this and Cardinal Place we are getting there slowly. As I work next door its great to have a look down onto the site from the roof, will take my camera when I remember!

cheers for the photos. We've at least got to get this thread on to a second page! It'll be a reasonable addition to the area.
