KARACHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS !

Quaid-e-Azam International Airport also commonly known as Jinnah International, is Pakistan's largest international and domestic airport. It is located in Karachi, Pakistan and has the IATA Airport Code KHI. It is known as the Jinnah Terminal as well.
As with most countries where the largest city is not the capital, the Government of Pakistan has designated Karachi's airport to be the leading aviation facility in that country, instead of Islamabad International Airport, the airport located at Pakistan's capital of Islamabad, a city much smaller than Karachi.

Quick facts:

Passenger Facilities: Annual Capacity 12,000,000, 60 check-in desks, 12 gates, 12 air bridges, 2 Airport Hotels, Min. Connection Times Intl-Intl: 60mins, Dom-Intl: 180mins, Dom-Dom: 60mins, Post Office, Bank, Bureau de Change, Cash Machine, Restaurants, Cafeterias, Duty Free Shop, Newsagent/Tobacconist, Chemist Shop, Gift Shop, Travel Agent, Tourist Help Desk, Car Rental, Taxi Service/Rank, First Aid, Baby/Parent Room, Disabled Access/Facilities.

Karachi airport is not the leading aviation hub if you know facts as of now. None of the big airlines come there unlike lawhore and islamabad.

Karachi was once a much busier airport. Between the 1960s and 1980s it was an online station of several major airlines of the world including British Airways, Lufthansa, Interflug, Tarom, Alitalia, JAT Yugoslavia Airlines, Aeroflot, Philippine Airlines, Nigeria Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Egypt Air, East African Airways, Kenya Airways, Yemenia, Iran Air, Air France, Qantas, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Pan Am, MEA, Swissair, SAS and Kuwait Airways. However, due to the emergence of Dubai's airport on the World map, increased usage of longer haul aircraft and the poor political climate of Karachi during 1990s, several airlines discontinued their service to the airport. However, in the past couple of years the dwindling numbers of airlines does seem to have stabilised somewhat and whilst there hasn't been a marked increase in the number of airlines flying to Karachi a few have either started or resumed flights e.g. Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines. Economic factors may be partly responsible and as the economy of Karachi and subsequently Pakistan expands there may yet be more carriers willing to return to Jinnah International.

I love the look of those PIA 737's. It would be nice to see them order some Next Generation 737's like the 737-700, -800 and -900.

Very nice and unique airport. Really reflects Pakistani culture but is also modern and functional at the same time.
