What program are using??? If I have to do this on AutoCAD, I'd prob need a terabyte of RAM!

Cinema 4D v9. I'd swear by this software. Its an all rounder and seems to cope well with big scenes

New transmission mast - tallest point in Chrisheem.
The newly completed radio and satellite antenna south of the old town is officially the tallest point in the city with the top of the mast reaching 356m above sea level. However the 216m mast already sits on top of 140m Chrisheem hill. The tallest structure is still Ocean Heights Plaza 1 at 319m

View of Midtown looking south. In the haze you can just see the new buildings in the Downtown area.

Yeah, some minor houses are not modelled, a combination of time, processor grinding to a halt and couldn't be arsed

I have sketchup on my PC, but never used it, so can't really comment. From what I've heard sketchup can lag though. I use Cinema 4D, which has crashed a few times with too many polygons (As you can imagine trying to build a city naturally involves many thousands of polygons), but generally pretty good performance.
Rendering is another thing entirely, takes about 24hours depending on the scene. |

This is a new Al Hamed Enterprise zone under development, to the northwest of Midtown. Plans for this area are to eventually overtake Midtown and downtown as the main commercial district for the city.

Thanks for the comments
A few more renders: This is the new downtown area south of midtown, which also incorporates Chrisheems port. The city is currently going through a massive building boom, which means my PC is chugging away every night! ![]() /\ Looking northwest across the port facility and downtown, with midtown and the new Al Hamed enterprise zone in the haze. ![]() /\ Closer view of the construction in Downtown looking northeast. ![]() /\ Looking south. Another view of Downtown from The radio Station on top of Chrisheem Hill. Virtually level with the new construction in Downtown.

Holy crap
,Just awesome work. Pingyao how many RAM have you installed in your machine? Are you using some global illumination to render the scenes?

Thanks for the comments. I have 1GB of ram, whicH I think is more important than graphics card, and processor speed for 3D work.
I tried HDRI (High Dynamic Range Lighting) maps on test renders, but it took too long (+3 days per render?!?!). So gave up. I render each view as a multipass file, with shadow, luminosity, diffuse layers etc. The most important thing though is to have a radiosity layer. I use a radiosity filter called stochastic, which gives the lighting a realistic feel - bounces light about well. Then its just a question of bringing all the layers into Photoshop to tweak them into the final image. |
