Is there any future for the San Fernando Valley?
After 2 secession attempts and evidence of rampant NIMBYism, is there any kind of future for SFV after its kind of obvious that they want to do things on their own (and how a lot of cities in the SFV are becoming independent, distancing themselves from the SFV proper)?
Would a lot of you mind if the SFV seceded from Los Angeles, despite the fact that our population would go down? Discuss... Last edited by VZN; September 25th, 2007 at 11:42 AM. |

Yeah, I agree with the both of you... it's not exactly as though I want to see the SFV go, but they need to shape up their shit or GTFO. Especially when they do a lot of slick shit to make it easier to secede from the city, do you really need people like that in our backyard? The SFV is what happens when you put the OC in L.A. County...
What I think the problem is right now is that a lot of people running the SFV grew up in 1940's-1960's Los Angeles where it was still this "giant suburb", before a defined DTLA with skyscrapers and density in certain parts of the city, and they're still striving to maintain that image for the SFV. What's it gonna look like when the rest of the city from the east to the west is developed but when the SFV looks like 'Burbsville U.S.A.? Just exactly WTF is going on out there? SFV residents sound off!

nah... keep em. we could use their city taxes.
though i wouldn't mind annexing all the cities south of the SM mountains and west of the 110. we'd look a lot better on a map. still keep SFV so they don't build a downtown/civic center of their own (that'll slow down our construction). plus we'd fall back to the third largest U.S. city in terms of population.

The entire county is like one big city anyway, so I don't see what difference it would make. I mean when we begin to build a rail system it stretches all the way south to LBC then NE to Pasadena then N to SFV and eventually all the way out W to Santa Monica.....whether we like it or not LA has roommates.

I rather keep the Valley and get rid of Watts, Portions of South L.A., Wilmington, El Sereno, and portions of North LA that are dead zones. I am someday returning to the SFV and will do everything possible to remain L.A. City limits, like it's always been...

I've only heard recently real estate types calling this NELA(northeast LA)which I hate. It used to just not have a name, right? Happy Valley....what?

Funny that secession is mentioned again. I actually just read an article in everyone's favorite newspaper, the daily news, that mentioned that the president of the la chamber of commerce (who happens to be a serioud valley proponent) is calling for la to be broken up into boroughs in order to give the valley more self governance.

Agreed. And remember half of L.A.'s population comes from the Valley and if L.A. ever does separate from the Valley (which will never happen) L.A.'s population will be cut in half bringing the L.A. city population down to 2 million.

The laughter in the rest of the country would be deafening, and the fact would be held against you forever if you allowed that to happen, whether you care or not. The damage will have been done.
