36-storey luxury apartment block replaces WTC Hotel

The World Trade Centre Hotel was closed last week in preparation of its redevelopment into a luxury apartment complex. Jumeirah International, operator of the property, announced that the complex is to open in 2007.

It confirmed that the hotel closed to the public from 15th May 2004, and that all staff had been offered alternative positions in Jumeirah International Hotels.

The redevelopment will replace The World Trade Centre Hotel with a 36-storey complex housing a selection of one, two, three and four bedroom apartments, as well as two penthouse suites. Additionally, there will be comprehensive on-site leisure facilities for residents renting apartments including a swimming pool and fully equipped gymnasium. Residents will be able to choose from a range of additional service facilities with the management.

“We are looking forward to the completion of this exciting project in 2007. We anticipate a rush for what will become the best residential address in the heart of Dubai and are ready to start taking preliminary enquiries now,” said Jumeirah International’s Bill Walshe.

The World Trade Centre Hotel opened its doors for the first time in March 1978 as the Hilton Hotel. It rapidly became one of Dubai’s favorite five-star properties and is remembered by many of Dubai’s residents and visitors as being amongst their first experiences of modern Dubai. The World Trade Centre Hotel belongs to the Jumeirah International group that comprises the world-renowned Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Emirates Towers Hotel, Offices and Boulevard, The Jumeirah Beach Club Resort and Spa and Wild Wadi Water Park.

In addition, the group opened The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management in summer 2001. Jumeirah International has expanded outside the Middle East into London, taking over the management of The Carlton Tower and The Lowndes Hotel in London's Belgravia in December 2001.

The company's latest expansion is the resort development Madinat Jumeirah, a 100 acre multi-facility resort including two grand boutique hotels.

I'm one of those. Is in Hilton where I stayed for 5 - 6 days when I first came to Dubai in November 1999.

The 38-storey Dubai World Trade Centre Residence in one of the best city locations has gone on sale. Three and four bedroom apartments from 2,600 sqft upwards cost from USD817,000 to USD1.6m for a 99-year lease. Asteco is handling sales, and one and two bedrooms will be released before the end of the month.
