Ashfield Valley
I've just stumbled accross this site by chance, and was looking at the Hulme 1986 thread with interest. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of the Ashfield Valley estate in Rochdale? (demolished in '92/'93 if memory serves).
It was a similar design to Hulme, but being in Rochdale, lacked the bohemian aspect, and was full of actual grown up adults who still sniffed glue. |

Anyone remember that estate in Collyhurst. You could see it from the train near Wilson's Brewery. Very apocolyptic looking.

The estate in Collyhurst, was it Turkey Lane flats?, just off Scropton St and known locally as 'the white flats' because, erm, the exterior of the buildings were all covered in these little white tiles. They were knocked down in about '85/'86 if memory serves.

There was a great documentary on Ashy Valley. probably around 1990, featured a punk called Norty Raskal who sniffed a lot of glue. A woman I used to work with called Kath Simpson was a green party candidate around that time and the glue sniffers comprised a large part of her support base.

sounds like my kind of program. Hopefully youtube will pick it up eventually.
Welcome, by the way, part2. Saw your post on the hulme thread and forgot to reply. Always good to have another on board. Don't hold back on posting any stories of your time there, if you feel like it.
