Hi all.

- No. They can erect the next levels while working on the floor slabs( whether they will or not remains to be seen ). They have not started on level 158 steel bits as of pics from Dec 26.

The height measurements are from ground level. Add 15.25 meters for the height from the slab. Level 157 steel vertical beams are up but no floor slab yet. There is not even any "walls" for level 156 yet but they can walk on it.

So regardless what the Emaar site says ( It said level 156 near 3 weeks early ) the structure is not at 158. So depending on how you look at it level 157 is up - no floor yet - 592.1 meters - 607.35 above the slab or level 156 is up - no walls yet - 585.7 - 600.95 above the slab. The measurements from the slab are just for the sake of knowing. The official height when it is completed will be from the ground level. I also don't believe they will include the railing and lights on top in the official height. So 818.0 unless they revise the plan again but I don't believe they will.

So they have a ways to go before 157 is done slab and all, but hey - at least there wasn't months between concrete and steel like was rumoured.

I posted from the schedule a few pages back but in short steel erection was to be completed second week in July '08, then spire lifting and top out third week in September. They started steel construction a month late though so we will see. Anyway many months to go before top out and then many months untill completion. Completion scheduled for second week of August '09.

and Happy New Years All .

I wonder how the cladding of the spire will happen, I guess they will do that before uplifting the spire, but how??

The spire will be already cladded in aluminium panels when it will be jacked up in place.

Will the steel structure be cladded the same way as the concrete structure?

Will we notice a difference between the concrete and steel structure?

Maybe yesterday some steel was added to reach 598.5m high. But the core itself doesn`t have even L156 floorplate as of latest pics.

Thanks.

So Burj Dubai is estimated to top-out between August and October 2008? And fully completed 12 months later including the area around the base?

i think the metal framework for the cladding is what they mean? Will the lifts be installed soon as the concrete core is complete?

Not a road to casually stroll across.

If, like me, you enjoy walking around the city, you find yourself cursing the lack of underpasses under SZR.

Man alive, the picture on Page 120, first at the end doesn't look real. Just too futuristic!! I'm stunned for words!
