this trip was sponsored by citinet, for around Rs 400000 so not a burden on the taxpayers as such. and it also had people like bina balakrishnan who is a transportation expert attached to mesn and ecoplan and members of mumbai transformation support unit

so hopefully its all good.

(Not bombay but ...A mate just returned from dehli & rajastan after a a 14 year absence.And he said he could see what all this India developement fuss was about...
I argued the point.Then I saw the videos.Unless ones looking for it India has changed not much.More crowded more dirty.A few new roads.And a metro system.But to him still the third world exept in a few tiny pockets.oh well)

This is a common refrain of many visitors. They cannot see the connection between the glowing "boom" reports about India in the papers and the ground reality in touristy spots and cheap hotels in the Paharganjes or Sudder Streets of India.

Interestingly I was talking to one of my relatives yesterday who frequently visits Delhi and was pretty impressed by the massive construction going all around. On the other hand I read a report from a "leading international" newpaper where the columnist/economist found that nothing had changed in the last two decades in Delhi since his last visit.

So it could be a matter of perspective and attitude, of what one sees or what one cannot see or what one doesn't not want to see or what one wants to see.

DB realty has put up a new rendering of the DB tower :

I called DB up to gather more details but the headstrong sales lady didn't want to give away any right now. She said that it'll be a residential project and not a commercial one as we had earlier thought it would be.

She couldn't even give height details?

Though with the 4m ceilings, it will be at least 256m tall

At first she played dumb and said there's no such proposed building. I told her about the renderings on the website, ad in the emirates magazine and then she admitted that it's in their pipeline. I asked for more details but she said she couldn't give any right now. In the end, I just asked her to clarify the type of tower to which she said it's residential.

btw, check this out. The construction of the Palais Royale tower is being carried out by SEW Constructions ltd. SRUIL has already contracted out the construction!

I called SEW up and I spoke with the secretary of the project manager who has set me up for a call at 2:30 IST with the project manager himself. Are there any specific questions you'd like me to ask apart from #of floors, deadline?

Alright I spoke with the project manager of the Palais Royale. He said it'll be 317m tall and will have 55-60 floors. They've finished the foundation work and he said the building will top out by April 2009. I've also sent him an email requesting for a rendering of the tower and images from the site at Worli naka.
