Meanwhile people are dying in unnecessary railway accidents thanks to the lethargic and incompetent management and staff of Eastern Railways. When will these idiots understand the value of life?

not in "the whole of india", but in west bengal. this is the station from where weekly train for dhaka(bangladesh) leaves. the "garib rath" also originates from this station and travels upto some bihar station...

I believe there are more stations planned to be upgraded to terminal standards to reduce load on Howran and Sealdah. An important one for long distance trains will be at Shalimar. Majerhat is apparently being developed into a hub as well.

"glass terminals" wont be possible at least in kolkata, but the "kolkata terminal station" is very much classy. as per my knowledge, it is a full equipped and well planned station.
those who go, like the station very much... |

no i mean for the metro and the new LRTs station...i would like to see some awesome futuristic unique station designs(rather than the mundane delhi style)...Bangalore Metro's station design should be used as the inspiration.

New rakes for suburban railway
Statesman News Service KOLKATA, March 10: New electrical motor unit (EMU) rakes are likely to soon replace the suburban trains plying from Howrah and Sealdah. Recently, one such EMU rake comprising three trailer coaches and one motor coach was commissioned by Eastern Railway at Howrah. The new EMU rakes, which will replace the old ones, comprise six trailer coaches and three motor coaches. The coaches were designed at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Perambur and are now being manufactured at several private manufacturing units. The coaches of the new EMU rakes were manufactured at Titagarh Wagon Limited’s Heavy Engineering Division at Hind Motor, Hooghly. According to a senior railway official, the Railway Board had placed an order for six such coaches with Titagarh Wagon Limited in 2005. Authorities claimed that they were the first to supply the coaches within six months of getting the final order and design. Though the company has supplied just four coaches, they are expecting to supply two complete EMU rakes of 9 coaches each every three months from April. Other than the Titagarh factory, Jessop, another private company, will supply four such rakes in the near future. A senior railway official said that the new coaches have been designed for the convenience of passengers. The high-capacity coaches, with coil spring suspension and air spring suspension in the primary and secondary stages respectively, will provide more comfortable rides to passengers. The coaches have fire retardant panelling and wider windows for proper ventilation. The looking glass in the driver’s cab is break resistant and much wider than those in the old ones. The parking brakes in the new rakes are capable of holding three car units under super-dense crush load condition. The internal furnishing, pipelines and fittings in the pneumatic system are made of stainless steel. The railway authorities are also planning to introduce a public address system in these new coaches for the convenience of passengers. The official further added that they are expecting to phase out the old EMU rakes and replace them with with new ones in two to three years. The Railway Board is all set to invite fresh tenders from private companies shortly for supplying 21 rakes and they have plans to procure one to two such rakes every month, the official said.

Sigh... now EMU is Electric Motor Unit instead of Electric Multiple Unit? I wish newspaper reporters would do a little more research before writing articles.

oh come on... we can't always complain like this.afterall there is always a way open for correction.the city is developing out of it's dark era. i know after those railings, the next thing coming to mind would be the tubelights. The list will never end.but nice effort there todsceen.waiting for more pics.
