I also thinks it looks beautiful, in fact before I came to SSC I've seen very little of Helsinki, and I was a bit positively surprised.
Although in some pictures I do get the impression that it's not the most lively city. BUT to me that is sort of fascinating, as the city looks far more planned and thought out than Oslo (it's sort of strange for me to have a more "noble" and beautiful city, but less hectic city life than what I know from Oslo). And where we have a lot of 4-floor (some 5) old buildings in most of the inner city, you have 5 or even 6 floor old buildings, which additionally are a bit more decorated and detailed than most of our similiar buildings. Oslo is much more of a "chaotic" city, part of the reason being that most of our inner-city streets are built in a time where we actually had no city in Norway, OR city planning, so the streets were mostly built for horse and cart... So the streets mostly aren't wide (for example our trams don't have separate lanes in most streets). Helsinki seems considerably more orderly, and indeed (for the most part) more well-planned. The russian influences seems to only add to Helsinki's personal character, and is nothing but positive in my eyes (don't misunderstand that one, in english that means "only positive" not "everything except positive" ).
