But if I still remember well. tahat was not a collapsing, that was just an explosion, and the building was still standing after all. They just had to crush it after total damages of the block.

There was a collapse of the main crane in Gdynia's shipyard in december 1999. It was destroyed by strong hurricane ( wind speed: 180 km/h). Fortunately it happened by night, so nobody gets hurt. I cant find any details about that crane, but I know that it's lifting capacity was 900 tons.

Here is a photo of the new crane, which is quite similar to collapsed one:

Its dimensions are: 106 meters tall, 153 meters wide, 3650 tons of weight and 1000 tons of lifting capacity. As far as I know the new one is just a ittle bit bigger than old one, so you can imagine size of that destroyed construction.

That was really crass!
A crane, which can lift 900 tons can be considered as a strong structure. How did the storm destroy it? Was it knocked over? Was it destroyed by too strong wind-induced oscillations? Was it pushed by the storm just over the ends of the rails on which it runs into the sea?

Yes, indeed. 2 or 3 lowest floors were completely smashed.

It was pushed by the wind to the sea, the safety brakes didn't work and it run into the shipyard basin. It was very strange to get up next morning, look out through my window and.. wait.. where the f**k is the crane?!

Unfortunately obviously nobody filmed the crash of the crane at Gdynia.

There were 11 floors including the ground one. In the picture we can see 8. 3 are missing.

Hm, obviously collapsed as a result of the explosion the lowest three floors and the remaining upper 8 floors fall on the debris, but did not collapse. If I am correct, this was a really unexpected result of the gas explosion: one would more expect that either all floors remained intact, that the upmost floor(s) would collapse, that a part of the building would totally collapse or even the whole building would collapse.

Well, the three floors were just blown out. There was a large gas pipe intersection under the building. The floors filled with gas and it exploded. The block just fell on the debris. Cause of the explosion: sabotage by one of the tennants who wanted to get back at his neighbors. He was also a victim of the explosion.

Similar explosions occured in Łˇdź - Retkinia:

22 january 1982, ul. Florecistˇw 3, 2 dead, and 7 December 1983 1/3 of the lowest floors of the building collapsed @ ul. Dzierżyńskiego 6 (now Armii Krajowej), 8 dead. The bulding stood and was later rebulit since the explosion did not harm the structure.

The explosion was caused by an excavator, which made a hole in a gas pipe. The basement filled with gas - someone did not install an automatic closing device on the pipe. The explosion was triggered by an electric spark in a doorbell rang by one of the victims.

Wrocław - plac Grunwaldzki - building collapsed during construction - 9 people were buried under the rubble.

For Obelixx who probably don't understand very much from that

In 1977 a salt mine in Wapno was destroyed by flooding. Afterwards three crumps have occured (August 1977, October 1977, January 1978) which have almost completely destroyed the town Wapno above the mine. There were no casualties because the city has been evacuated. About 1500 people never returned to their homes as many of them are now deep below ground level. The mine itself has been flooded with water from nearby lake and is now pretty much stable, but living there is still prohibited in a few zones.

Why got the mine flooded? As a result of high water?
Has someone pictures of the catastrophe?

@B╔TON!BRUT!: why did the building in Wroclaw collapse during construction?
