Several big developers bid on the Bathurst Street site, which could house a 40,000sqm office tower in Sydney's increasingly tight office market. While a refurbishment would be a quick option as Sydney's office vacancy rate drops, it is understood Multiplex will knock down and rebuild the tower. Just as the builder won the project, Multiplex's veteran head of development has resigned. Mr O'Regan spent 25 years with the company and departs in February. He started with Multiplex as a cadet in 1983 and worked on some of the group's major projects, including the Wharf at Woolloomooloo, Luna Park, King Street Wharf and World Square in Sydney, and was a founding member of Multiplex's development business. Mr O'Regan is the second senior Multiplex executive to depart since Canada's Brookfield effectively took full control of the builder. He follows the group's head of funds management, Ian O'Toole, who left at the end of October as Brookfield executive Brian Kingston moved to head of asset management. Multiplex's founding Roberts family sold the last of its stock in the builder into Canadian suitor Brookfield Asset Management's $4.2 billion takeover bid in October. Brookfield, which manages $83 billion in property, power and timber assets in Europe and North America, struck a deal with the Roberts family for its 26 per cent controlling

Not bad but really Sydney has enough of a dense undergrowth of 150m towers. It really needs to have a couple 300m towers jutting through to reset the skyline.

as part of stage1, the atrium will be a requirement for the winning design. much like the height and bulk.
the 1939 waterboard is part of design , thus the atrium entrance from bathurst street. you will enter from bathurst thru the atrium into the 1930;s bldg. very cool sort of igniting its use again. it will have 14,000sqm of brand new office space.

perfect location for a very tall building. That part of the skyline is very glassy so it will be good if the winning design is concrete or non-glassy

) that the interior of the old building was so difficult to access, where it was used. I understand that some floors of the old building were pretty much mothballed for number of years.....Kent |

I have a picture of it's dirty grubby southern side hidden somewhere in my collection of photo CD's.
Commenting on the possible atrium, it looks great. Opens up to Bathurst St very well and appears to make effective use of natural light. Should brighten up that stretch of Bathurst St, which particularly at this time of year can be fairly dark due to shadowing from towers. What happened to the thread in the main section. I noticed it has been deleted???

well there won't be many similar buildings left soon. as ugly as they are, it's a pity if we lose them all, but at least with the law courts refurb we've got that one for some time to come.

It actually looks pretty freakin' good to me in that black and white photo, but I suppose that's just shadows and contrast playing tricks on my eyes
