Pahang set to become ICT hub
Saturday July 26, 2008, TheStar

KUANTAN: Pahang is set to become an information, communication and technology (ICT) infrastructure hub in the country with investments estimated at between RM10bil and RM12bil.

Under the project, the state will be turned into a high-speed broadband infrastructure provider offering bandwidth between 30MB and 100MB nationwide.

According to State Information, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin, the project was proposed and would be undertaken by a consortium comprising state government-linked company Pahang Technology Resources Sdn Bhd and several well-established companies from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Europe and the United States.

“A proposal on the project was submitted to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) a few weeks ago.

“We are now waiting to make a presentation before the Cabinet Committee on ICT that is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” he told reporters after presenting prizes to winners of a debate competition organised by the state Anti Corruption Agency and education department at a hotel here on Thursday.

He added that a team consisting of technical specialists conducted three years of research before drafting the proposal.

To a question, Mohd Sharkar said the project would be funded by the consortium and several financial institutions.

“The companies and financial institutions have given their commitment to provide financial back-up for the project,” he added.

Lots of complaint regarding the VERY slow of the escalator at both side of the main hall, and some small business owners complain the rent consider a little high in Kuantan (some said same like Klang Valley, I'm not so sure about this) while the sales is low compare to the rent.

Well I like the space and environment inside ECM, very comfortable and bright.

EMPANGAN CHEREH KUANTAN

Empangan Chereh Tasik Buatan Untuk Simpanan Air Bersih Terbesar Negara

PERLUKAN TIGA MUSIM TENGKUJUH

MAMPU BEKALKAN KIRA-KIRA 2 JUTA METER PADU AIR SEHARI

Sungai Lembing Bakal Dibangun Sebagai Tapak Warisan Dunia

Sungai Lembing Bakal Dibangun Sebagai Tapak Warisan Dunia

Just got back from the town. Check out the East coast mall lately; quite trendy and well mix of merchandise offers here. Parkson interior is excellent done from its ambience lighting and the merchandise arrangement. Another score is the f&b area. Fastfoods are placed at the highest floor so that shoppers may drop in before proceed to carpark above or hop into the cinema. Those eateries open until late night are placed at ground floor fronting the mall entrance carpark for accessibiliy and convenience. My grouses would be the mall exterior plain cheap look. Its long shape of building mimicking the dull Great wall of kuantan. Interior walls have unacceptable cracks (perhap due to overcrowding on opening days?), lousy ceiling work all round especially the Parkson main concourse. Anyway, this is the best mall in the east coast and a very good start for the town development.

Across the mall is the on-going construction work on 2 towers of hotel and office block. A convention center is also built as part of the towers podium.

Still at early foundation stage:

Kuantan compare to west coast city

I think ktn is more developed compare to some west coast city.i have frnd from alor star says a.s is nothing but sleeping city.they got the city status when Dr M was pm.
And so for KT when general election was held in March. They got the title in Jan.and the name of the city is bandar warisan pesisir pantai.Purely political gimmick

But i really hope ktn will qualify as city someday.i used to study here a long time ago.

I think Kuantan still has a very long way to go to become a real city. 10 years from now I guess. On the other hand, Kuantan may be designated as a 'city' before the next election since they lost so much in Kuantan. Let's see.

Here's another shot of Kuantan town centre:
