Bangalore is full of intellectuals who don't want to go into politics for all obvious reasons but crib a lot ...
anyways, looks like this thread lost its sheen as the fighting folks moved to Praja.in blog. Mr. Devesh is a vehement speaker there too on opening HAL. No more comedy from mpvp either

News report on BIAL lethargy
BIA expansion still on planning board
Sunday August 3 2008 04:15 IST Express News Service BANGALORE: The Bangalore International Airport Limited, which started commercial operations on May 24 this year, has been under the scanner due to the congestion and space constraints at the airport. A month earlier BIAL stated that it would take up the expansion work of the airport soon and that the construction of a low cost terminal for low cost carriers by the end of 2009. Similarly, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel also directed BIAL to double its terminal capacity in the next three years by constructing a mirror terminal and also increase the capacity in eight months by extending the existing terminal. However, BIAL has said that they are still in the planning stage and do not have anything concrete to announce with regard to the expansion. "BIAL has to explore ways to increase the capacity of the existing terminal before it reaches a saturation point which is quite certain given the manner in which civil aviation is growing in the country," Ministry sources told The Express. The BIA by 2011 is expected to handle 18 million passengers and in all probability will add another million passengers to the existing 11 million passengers. Oh yeah, BIAL is sooo lethargic. Whereas AAI, would have by now not only done the planning, but also finished construction. Sure...

Do not know how many things they would have mulled..
DP, you cannot even begin to comprehend all the things that AAI would have mulled over by now. They would have mulled over a billion sq. feet terminal, they would have mulled over a 500 kmph airport express, they would have mulled over automatic garbage collection in the parking lot etc. Then they would have downed endless cups of chai to mull over mulling over. And all BIAL did was put up a terminal and it took them 3 years.

It was because BIAL created history by being lethargic unlike what we have been used too all along - that it became fit to report its (alleged) lethargy as NEWS. The idiot BIAL must learn from high-energy, efficient examples like this one: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...&postcount=779 |

Anyways, there is nothing lethargic about it, you would do the same. What about those who have filed petitions to prevent BIAL from expansion and there are talks/meetings about Govt trying to pull off a coup against BIAL. I think BIAL will not invest anymore until this HAL saga and the threats to re-negotiate the contract are settled. It makes perfect sense to wait it off to see the outcome of this beuracratic chaos before putting more money into this. Last edited by Raichen; August 3rd, 2008 at 06:21 PM. |

yes.
And here is another sample from Kolkata. Notice the aesthic sense is completely missing where they have created multiple slopes at irregular intervals from the kerb to the street level. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kuyo/26...7605655532676/ |

It was confirmed by VVR and one other forumer as a pic of chandigarh Airport. VVR posted it first. I assume he was serious. I have not seen that though.
Anyway i have seen AAI airports that during expansions were quite bad and nowhere close to BIA. And may i add that - this example i gave only to draw attention to the fact that MPVP's and many politcians's abysmal descriptions about BIA made no sense, because projects that were under their purview were pathetic flops. And i get annoyed by politcians's rants(made in the asembly) because most of them actually dont even care about any project whether it be BIA or some other. This is in stark contrast to someone like an S.M. Krishna who had at least an inkling of where he was going, what he was doing and about what he was speaking. Maybe its ok for politicians to exagerrate or lie when getting at one another(that's inbetween them), but to go beyond that and make a impudent distortive joke out of a project just to gain cheap political mileage i thought was an insult to the public. Initially I thought someone stole the luggage cart from the airport and took this pic in some rural back alley or something.
