I think it would be pretty awesome if the Canal was extended through the south side of downtown. I know it would never happen, but it could be an opportunity to make the canal an even more prominent feature of the city.

Though I'm not from Indy I have to jump in here and tell you I spent 7 days there in the last 2 weeks (on 2 trips). The canal walk is an amenity a lot of cities would die for. Add the fact that the History Center, NCAA HQ and the State Museum front the canal and you have something that is truly wonderful! I think Indy should continue to build on this and it would be great to see more sidewalk, er, canalwalk, cafes and an even stronger connection to the street (though it's pretty good already). Throw in a marina on the White River near the zoo, too!

South Meridian Corridor

My dream would be for developers to expand upon the Idea of "sodo" (the region, not the project) with a South Meridian Corridor plan. This is my favorite part of the city, with the best views, and so much potential. Shapiro's owners have already stated they don't want to move, so why not redevelop and add to the existing building. Filling in Shapiro's parking lots would not only fill their pockets, but it would do so much for that part of town. I love how that area looks as though it is perched atop a slope that leads into downtown. I am also a big fan of the Sacred Heart area in general. I feel like this should be the next part of town that is fixed up. There are wooden rowhomes and small brickfronts all over the place. If I had the money, that is where I would invest.

The near southside could be a massive historic district(with commercial activity and life LOCKERBIE!) with it's hundreds of 19th-century workman's houses and multiple historic churches, shops, etc and the density ain't bad either!

If I were to grant just one wish for this city, it would HAVE to be real transit.

Imagine if something like this ever saw the light of day...
