Maybe a good idea would be to remove this thread from here and put it under the Photos thread, and start presenting there Romanian castles and masions there, since we do not have such a thread so far...

But does anybody have a passion for this or at least is willing to do it? It would certainly be more appropriate there, of course.

Banffy Castle, Bontida (near Cluj)
A ruined castle which belonged to the governor of Transilvania. After being set on fire by the retreating german army in the second world war and after 50 years of neglect, damage and robberies, it is now in process of restauration. You can read more about it here: http://www.heritagetraining-banffyca...index.php?p=21 ![]() ![]() ![]() The entrance to the inner court: ![]() The kitchen (now a literary cafe): ![]() The entrance to the stables: ![]() The stables: ![]() The abandoned watermill in front of the castle: ![]() Stone details: ![]()

Salveaza pozele la tine pe calculator si apoi foloseste ImageShack si selecteaza optiunea de 15 inch pentru poze.

Rhemaxos, actually the Banffy Castle has been under restauration since 2004 i think. From the pictures you can see that almost all of it has a new roof and the small building with a tower is usable and it's a cafe. A few years ago the castle was just a bunch of walls barely standing together. It doesn't look like much today because from what I've read it needs 5 mil. euros more, and work is going very slow. But I'm optimistic and, unlike most castles in Transylvania, this one has a future.

The Banffy Castle in Rascruci, Bontida commune. This one is better preserved and has an impressive interior.
