This new KQ livery is very attractive
nice traditional African colour combination too...A new airline for Zambia - a regional one as yet Zambian Airways - as opposed to the new defunct Zambia Airways... The interesting and simple livery of Zambian Airways still sticks to the Fish Eagle - Zambia's national bird for inspiration as is artistically indicated by the eye and the graphics on the tail... The Boeing 737-244/Adv the 'Joy' of the Zambian skies... ![]() And the diminutive Beech 1900D at Lanceria, South Africa

Yr Welcome DanteXavier. U got the pic of the only other 737 Zambian Airways owns. They have 2 737-200s. Also forgot to add that the Tail livery uses the colours of the Zambian Flag to graphically depict it's fish eagle similar to the colours of good old Zambia Aiways (QZ). This was QZ's 737 - they had 2 of these towards the end.
As you can see QZ also used the Zambian Flag colours and also dipicted the fish eagle in it's stylised 'Z' on the tail...(click on image for source) ![]() The above airframe is sadly written off after the plane was sold to VASP a Brazilian airline - it crash landed in 2003 at Brazil in poor weather - no fatalities - minimum injuries for 93 occupants - but airframe too badly damaged with aircraft on the grass off the runway. The next QZ has another interesting but sad story to tell... This QZ Boeing 757 Cargo in was sold to Gulf Air then later sold to DHL after QZ shut shop - It was involved in a horrific mid air collision in 2002 with a Russian Trupolev passenger airliner. It was an error on the part of an over worked German Air Traffic Control system. The video of this crash can be seen here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ugiC...eature=related ![]() Looks like the aircraft didnt like to leave QZ where apparently they were well taken care of. I remember that QZ aircraft were clean and generally well maintained. |

You're welcome Dante
Air Namibia's livery seems inspired by South African's attractive new livery. Namibia too looks Euro white with the attractive naional flag colours on it's tail. Some take the inspiration theme a bit too far... Air Tanzania's Boeing 732 looks like a copy of South African - it does look good though in all honesty...a bit more originality wouldn't have harmed it surely... ![]() ![]() It might have been a clever ploy to bask in SAA's 'Best African Airline' aura by fielding a very easily mistakable similarity in the livery. Well they seemed to have taken the feed back - this looks like their new livery now on their first A320... The colours look entirely different - The giraffe is retained but now the tail has the recognizable snow topped Kilimanjar peaks. The only perennially white topped peaks in Africa - which is a good Tanzanian USP for the livery apart from the Giraffe. Quite a plesant livery - It reminds me a bit of AI's livery ...especially the the rays on the tail and the wavy section ahead of the horizontal stabilisers as well ...but still a good effort bringing out Tanzania's signature tallest African mountain and animal. ![]() ![]() Kolourful Kulula of South Africa... ![]() Kulula's an endearing riot I must say... ![]() This ones Rad - but being a wet leased aircraft (Comair) it looks like the locale painted on the aircraft is an European one rather than South African... ![]() Zip er up to the next destination - This Kulula 737-400 dons the latest - a 'fly' completes the livery on this flying machine...complete with a crowd pulling sense of humour! ![]() A striking pictue against Jo'burg's impending rain storm background... Mango's shocking orange livery on this 737-800 goes - oh so well- with that dark background - near perfect shot. Hats off to the photographer Sean Mowatt.

One of the last DC-8s in passenger service in 1990 - looking long and sleek with newer retrofited engines in Zambia Airways livery at London.
![]() Another picture for posterity - a shortlived Zambian airline called Aero Zambia - 732 covertable (note the large Cargo door behing the passenger door) at Jomo Kenyatta Nairobi in '97...National Bird Fish Eagle featured on it's tail in this rather boring and old fashioned livery. Airline shut shop in 2000.
