I am delighted to have Ideal Worlds as a partner for Armani/Casa in Singapore and now for the Kuala Lumpur store, located in the prestigious Starhill Gallery. As you make your way through the 350 square meters of the store, one can’t help but marvel at the chic modernity of the glossy metal structures, appropriately placed shelves supported by full length poles finished in glossy black lacquer, and the dark tatami tiles finished with glossy reflective steel and black reflective aluminium.

The relatively young brand which launched in 2000 with the opening of its first store in Milan is synonymous with fashion connoisseurs because it personally reflects Giorgio Armani’s style philosophy to the world of home interiors paying special emphasis to sophisticated comfort.

Through an elegant display of fabric, textures and patterns, numerous ideas and visual themes from the Armani Fashion collection is evident in the interior pieces.

Armani Casa is presenting in Kuala Lumpur two limited edition creations of only 50 examples, each one bearing the signature of Giorgio Armani.

The Antoinette, a highly original dressing table which was designed for the sensual and sophisticated Woman, who loves to pamper herself. Not forgetting the Adelchi, a restrained and charismatic modern-style desk intended for a Man who prioritises minimalism and purity of style.

During the opening, two representatives from Milan were present to give guests a tour and an in-depth experience of the store.

Tan Sri (Dr.) Francis Yeoh, Group Managing Director of YTL Corporation expressed his joy at having Italy finest brands right in Kuala Lumpur at Starhill Gallery. “Consumers are becoming more discerning and sophisticated in their taste for the finer things in life. YTL is indeed pleased to be the majority shareholder of this wonderful franchise through Ideal World with our partner Dr Derek Wong. This is definitely a new milestone for YTL and Malaysia tonight,” said Tan Sri Francis adding that one can now complete their luxury retail experience all under one roof at Starhill Gallery.

DeWitt opens first boutique in the world at Starhill Gallery
Kuala Lumpur, July 12, 2008

Jerome DeWitt and Tan Sri Dr. Francis Yeoh toasting to
the opening of DeWitt's first boutique in the world

It was a historical moment yesterday when DeWitt unveiled its first flagship boutique in the world at Starhill Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.

Officiated by Mr. Jerome de Witt himself, the store marks DeWitt’s brand new concept boutique that exhibits their magnificent collections of exquisite limited edition timepieces.

Jerome de Witt inherited his passion for timepieces from his ancestor, the French emperor Napoleon the First. Everyone in his illustrious family collected watches, including Caroline Murat, who was one of the most remarkable collectors and philanthropists of her time because she was the first woman to finance the design of a wristwatch!

Overcome with the art of Haute Horlogerie, Jerome de Witt, the great grandson of Napoleon decided to bring his art to the biggest ‘Global Fine Watch Retailer’ which houses some of the largest stand-alone watch boutiques in the world.

Jerome de Witt said “This is the first boutique in the world and I have chosen Starhill Gallery to be the first Asian country to house DeWitt”

Jerome de Witt’s intent is to share his passion for timepieces with those who have the privilege of being his friends. This passion translates to his watches as DeWitt timepieces are crafted to perfection and offers nothing but, the best.

“It is truly meaningful for us that DeWitt has chosen to express its values of passione d’exception here in Starhill Gallery where it is also our passion to celebrate life in pursuit of all things exceptional! In the words of Jerome’s granduncle, Napoleon the First himself, “Imagination rules the world”. (L'imagination gouverne le monde.), ” said Tan Sri (Dr.) Francis Yeoh all in smiles.

The celebration began with a charity cocktail evening, which was held in conjunction with the premiere showcase of John Woo’s latest movie, Red Ciff. The Collaboration between DeWitt and Red Cliff began when DeWitt became the title sponsor for Red Cliff at this year’s Cannes Festival.

Guests were overjoyed at the opportunity to meet the director and cast of Red Cliff right here at Starhill Gallery. Among the celebrities present were John Woo, Chang Chen, Chiling Lin and Zhang Fengyi.

DeWitt is also known to do its bit for charity, and presented at the opening, was a cheque of RM88, 000 which was donated to the Ti-Ratana Penchala Community Centre.

Chief Reverend Ven K Sri Dhammaratana Maha Nayaka Thera was present to receive the contribution, which will go towards the building and set up of a one-stop skill and guidance centre.

YTL keen to launch Starhill brand in Singapore and London

http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story...7&sec=business
Wednesday September 10, 2008

SINGAPORE: After having successfully launched the Starhill brand in Dubai, YTL Corp Bhd wants to expand the concept to Singapore and London.

“We are being pursued by people from London. We also want to do a Starhill in Singapore and it can either be a greenfield or an existing property,” managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said during the “The Luster of Luxury” forum at the Forbes Global CEO conference yesterday.

“Time is now a window for us and I can wait for 12 months to make a capital investment in Singapore,” he said.

Tan Sri Francis Yeoh
YTL owns the Starhill brand concept. It first developed the concept in Kuala Lumpur and last April it launched the Starhill Gallery in Dubai.

Yeoh believes there is a booming market for luxury products and that “luxury should come to a person instead of the person going to luxury.” Malaysia will also be home to the “Forbes Asia Luxury Forum: The Art of Time” for the first time in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 5. It will examine the booming market for luxury timepieces in the region. A half day conference will also be held.

The event is held in conjunction with YTL’s “A Journey Through Time II” which kicks off from Dec 4 to 14 at the Starhill Gallery. It will be Asia’s largest watch and jewellery showcase. “YTL is an ideal partner for Forbes Asia in co-hosting this event given its expanding portfolio of luxury lifestyle resorts, luxury retail outlets such as the Starhill Gallery and other luxury-related projects,” Forbes vice chairman Christopher Forbes said.:@:@

Wooing Asia's super rich to 'Journey Through Time'
By Azlan Abu Bakar Published: 2008/09/17

STARHILL Gallery, together with Tourism Ministry and Tourism Malaysia, hopes to use the "A Journey Through Time" exhibition as a platform to attract the super rich in the region to spend in Malaysia.

YTL Corp Bhd managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said the exhibition, held for the second time, is in line with the government's initiative to turn tourism into the main income source for socio-economic development by providing quality tourism events and activities.

The "A Journey Through Time" exhibition to be held from December 4 to December 14, is dubbed Asia's largest watch and jewellery showcase and will feature over 100 luxury watch brands and jewellery.

"We hope to attract high net-worth individuals across the region to the exhibition and this could help boost tourist receipts for the country," he told reporters after launching the event in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

He noted that last year, tourist arrivals to Malaysia reached 20.97 million, surpassing the 20.1 million target set by the government and tourist receipts totalled RM46.1 billion, surpassing the targeted figure of RM44.5 billion.

Yeoh said the significant increase is indicative of all the efforts and activities by Tourism Malaysia and local organisers, one of which is Starhill Gallery, in hosting high-value events.

He said the initiative by YTL's Starhill Gallery is expected to boost tourism while taking advantage of Kuala Lumpur's status as a duty free haven for branded goods.

Launching the event was Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman. Also present was Forbes Asia president and publisher William Adamopoulos.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Forbes will host the Forbes Asia Luxury Forum where leading authorities on the global watch industry will gather to deliberate more on the industry.

Adamopoulos, when asked to elaborate on the number of millionaires in the region, said it has increased by more than 40 per cent with India and China leading the pack with the most number of millionaires and billionaires.

YTL to launch Asia’s largest luxury watch retail event

KUALA LUMPUR: Touted as Asia’s largest luxury watch retail event, YTL Corp Bhd’s A Journey Through Time II is expected to attract about 70,000 visitors from all over the world.

Group managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh said following last year’s successful hosting of Asia’s largest watch and jewellery exhibition at the Starhill Gallery, YTL decided to organise the event annually.

“Last year was a successful inaugural year for A Journey Through Time, that drew over 35,000 visitors of whom the majority were high net-worth individuals.

“I believe this would herald the onset of Malaysia as a top destination for luxury watch and jewellery acquisition,” Yeoh told a media briefing yesterday after announcing details of A Journey Through Time II, that would be held from Dec 4 to 14. The event would also have other cascading multiplier effects on the hospitality business and the Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Events market, Yeoh said, adding: “We want this event to be like the Cannes Film Festival.”

The Forbes Asia Luxury Forum, that would feature discussions on how to become a great collector of high-end watches, what makes a great watch and the watch industry’s role in the luxury market, would also be held in conjunction with the event.

Yeoh said exquisite new and old timepieces that had made their mark in the horological world would be showcased this year.

To a question, he said a recession would not affect this group of super high-end people.

“Collectors understand that a watch would appreciate in terms of value if they collect a limited edition watch with the right artistry.

“Many well-heeled travellers are flying in on their private jets. I believe they can afford these high-end watches if they have their own jets,” he said.

Forbes Asia president and publisher William Adamopoulos. said Asia had become a major engine of growth in the world.

China and India were currently leading the pack of the world’s fastest growing population of billionaires, he said, adding that there were only five billionaires each in India and China five years ago. Today, the number is about 211 in the Asia Pacific region.

“I believe the forum is very timely and holding it in this region underscores the tremendous spending power and the influence the growing Asian market wields on the luxury industry,” he said.

THE Muse floor at the Starhill Gallery in Kuala Lumpur will be turned into a tunnel for artistic experience for an entire month.

The Starhill Gallery Art Festival 2008 in collaboration with the National Art Gallery will feature an eclectic collection of art pieces from local and international artists.

Eye-catching: One of the art pieces on display.

“It is significant that the National Art Gallery as custodian of Malaysia’s heritage in the Fine Arts shares this passion with YTL in bringing the Arts to the people at Starhill Gallery,” said the director of YTL Corporation Bhd Datuk Yeoh Soo Min.

National Art Gallery director-general Dr Mohamed Najib Dawa said that their responsibility for conserving and promoting Malaysian art had lessened considerably.

“I believe that this is due to the many present and emerging presence of passionate lovers and supporters of the arts,” Mohamed said.

He added that the invitations to collaborate with the National Art Gallery from government and private sectors was an indication that Malaysian Visual Arts was thriving both locally and internationally.

The Art Festival will showcase unique Chinese paintings by Zhang WeiPing and He Jialin from China from Oct 24 to Nov 2.

Gems of time
NST Online » Features

ceremony of A Journey Through Time II.

High-end luxury watches and collectors’ items will be showcased at Starhill Gallery’s ‘A Journey Through Time II’ for admirers and purchasers, writes ZUHAILA SIDEK.

“TIME is the best healer”. “Time is precious”. “Time is what you have”.

It’s all about time. No one seems to be able to live a day without acknowledging the power of time.

The watch has been a collectible item throughout the ages. Expensive, collectible watches are valued more for their workmanship and aesthetic appeal than merely for their timekeeping.

From Dec 4 to 14 this year, in appreciation of the beauty of the Watch, Starhill Gallery in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia, will present one of its most prestigious events, “A Journey Through Time (AJTT) II”.
Taking place for the second time, the largest watch and jewellery fair in Asia is expected to woo some 70,000 visitors. Last year, the fair attracted over 35,000.

The theme for this year’s AJTT II will be “Moments in Time”, in which the past, the present and the future of the watchmaking industry will be celebrated.

YTL’s managing director Tan Sri Dr Francis Yeoh said the company will pay tribute to the best and most innovative moments in the history of watchmaking.

The event will be showcasing exquisite new and old timepieces that have made their mark in the horological world.

“The items at the event are the super high-end luxury products, investments worth making because of their appreciation value,” Yeoh said.

Visitors will get to catch a glimpse of, or even better, own, a watch from world-renowned brands such as Armand Nicolet, Jaeger LeCoutre, Korloff Noir, Bvlgari, BlancPain, Hermes, Corum, Van Cleef&Arpels, Bedat&Co, Boucheron, Mouawad, DeWitt, Omega and many others.

Also, Mouawad, a favourite among Hollywood’s A-listers, will be showcasing its US$4.5 million (RM15.7 million) Fantasy Bra, the US$1.7 million heart-shaped purse once used by Nicole Kidman, and a replica of The Star of Stanley Ho.

Jaeger LeCoutre will feature its Parure Extraordinaire Le Lierre, a jewellery set comprising a cuff-watch, a necklace, a pair of earrings and a ring.

This collection carries 12,000 precious stones, appreciatively 160 carats and is the only one in the world.

Yeoh said that the recent success of the Beijing Olympics has made Asia the centre of attention.

“We have many high net worth travellers who are now starting to see Malaysia as a place of luxury. They land via private jets and make a stop at Pangkor Laut, for instance, just for lunch or tea. This shows that they do see Malaysia as a place to be at, and this event may enhance that image,” Yeoh added.

Different from the Baselworld Fair (the world’s largest luxury watch and jewellery fair) held in Switzerland every April, AJTT is more retail-focused where visitors can buy luxury timepieces of their choice on the spot.

With the tax-free incentives for luxury timepieces available at Starhill Gallery, Yeoh added that shoppers need not head to Hong Kong or Singapore.

“If they say Hong Kong and Singapore are much cheaper, they are wrong. We offer the cheapest when it comes to luxury watches,” he said.

AJTT II will take place for 11 days and it will also present “The Swiss Museum of Horological Art”, which aims to give visitors a comprehensive look at the history of Swiss watchmaking over four centuries.

Not only that, in conjunction with AJTT II, there will also be the world’s first and only watch and clock museum called The Hour Glass Museum of Contemporary Horological Art or Mocha.

It will exclusively promote contemporary production watches and showcase watch artefacts developed over the past three decades.

There will also be a forum titled “Forbes Asia Luxury Forum: The Art of Time:, co-hosted by Forbes and YTL Corporation Berhad, which will be held On Dec 5 in conjunction with AJTT II.

Several leading authorities in the global timepiece industry will gather to examine the booming market of luxury timepieces in the region.

Other highlights will be the launch of Curtis&Co, a brand that is popular among celebrities all over the world as well as the launch of the first and only Bedat& Co boutique in the world at Starhill Gallery.

Also present at the Press conference was Minister of Tourism Datuk Sri Azalina Othman Said.

“This event is in line with our mission in making tourism the nation’s number one source of income,” Azalina said.

Starhill Gallery is a shopping destination in Malaysia that provides a unique standard of privacy and exclusivity.

By the touch of your fingers, the dark chasms will light up to reveal a Bedat & Co watch within it. Encompassing a hi-tech experience, a simple touch will also trigger the table display to rotate for customers to browse through the timepieces.

"Kuala Lumpur has become known as the luxury hub for fine watches and this is because of one mans’ dream. We offer you not only a timepiece to adorn your wrist, but rather a total luxurious and sophisticated lifestyle by offering the exclusive Quintessentially membership – a bespoke programme that caters to your every need," said Mr Low who has built an empire of exclusive luxury lifestyle brands here in Starhill Gallery.

The speciality of the Bedat & Co collections is that every collection is named after a certain number - Nos. 1, 3, 7 and 8. Each number reflects its own philosophy; No. 1 implies the beginning, No. 3 stands for perfection, No. 7 denotes eternal life and No. 8 is synonymous to infinity.

The concept of 'numbering' its timepieces reveals an original Bedat approach towards watch making which is both simple and effective.

"'Good friends have everything in common,' says Plato. So it is my joy that such a refined brand as Bedat & Co shares our passion in enriching the human experience with timeless beauty and discreet sophistication. Their rarity of being 'very famous amongst very few', but absolutely to the most sophisticated, is what truly matters to us. An icon of world-class luxury among others, Bedat & Co does indeed affirm Starhill Gallery as an Icon of Icons in Kuala Lumpur," said Tan Sri (Dr) Francis Yeoh, Managing Director of YTL Corporation Berhad.

Madame Vivienne Frankhauser, CEO of Bedat & Co arrived from Switzerland especially for the unveiling of its first boutique in the world. Madame Vivienne spoke of Bedat & Co saying it was a natural progression for the young brand that was formed in 1996, to enter an Asian market that has started to become a horologic hub.

"Kuala Lumpur has been on the rise in the watch world and what better place for Bedat & Co to house its first boutique in the world than in Starhill Gallery. Starhill Gallery fits very well into the whole philosophy of the Bedat & Co with its exclusivity and collection of luxury brands," she exclaimed.

Mr Billy Tsang, Managing Director of Bedat & Co Asia Pacific had one thing to say which helped imprint the status of Bedat & Co in the world today. "The campaign reveals the secret that the Bedat brand is 'very famous amongst very few people’. And that would give you an idea of how exclusive this brand is," he said.

As expressed by Christopher Forbes, who received a Limited Edition timepiece from the No 7 collection during the launch of A Journey Through Time II, "As long as I don’t suffer from Alzheimer, I’ll always remember the Bedat & Co watch I’ve received."

During the Bedat & Co Gala Dinner, the latest collections were showcased in a stunning fashion show at Shook! Restaurant.

To celebrate the occasion, special guests were invited for a delectable dinner. Among the guests were Dato Dr Ng Yen Yen, Minister of Women, Family & Community Development and Dato’ Yeoh Soo Min, Executive Director of YTL Corporation Berhad.

Seri Paduka Baginda Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah, also unveiled the spectacular timepiece highlighted for the evening. Housed in the vitrine was the exquisite diamond encrusted Bedat & Co No.7 timepiece – the Diamond Baguette.

It was a perfect end to a perfect evening as flautist Andrea Griminelli took to the stage again delivering an outstanding performance with soprano Cynthia Lawrence and tenor Saimir Pirgu. The trio performed an incredible repertoire together with songs like The Prayer, Mattinata and Brindisi together with the Starhill Gallery Sinfonietta.

Luxury watch brand opens store in KL

SWISS luxury timepiece brand Maurice Lacroix’s independent store at the Starhill Gallery was launched by its sole distributor DKSH Luxury recently.

Glasear said Malaysia was an ideal locale to house the brand.

The boutique, which takes up a 90 sq m area, bears earthy colours and filled with furniture made of exotic Makassar wood. The walls are plastered with satin Tadelakt, a traditional coating for palaces and hammams.

During the opening, watch aficionados got up close and personal with Maurice Lacroix’s latest showcase - Mémoire 1.

It is said to be the first watch in the world that comes with the 7th function, a memory.

The Mémoire 1 was unveiled at Baselworld 2008.

“The launch of the store not only reveals its art of watchmaking to our local affluent customers, but also to the elites from around the region,” Niederer said.

“As we strive hard to remain at the forefront of the watch industry in Malaysia and the region, LuxuryConcepts is consistently looking out for talented and promising watch brands like Bedat & Co, to collaborate with,” said Low.

“Inspired by Art Deco traditions that play with simple mathematical geometric shapes, each Bedat & Co timepiece is intricately designed to reflect purity and refinement,” said Fankhauser.

Distinguished guests were treated to a performance by soprano Cynthia Lawrence, tenor Saimir Pirgu and Italian flutist Andrea Griminelli as they marvelled at the extraordinary timepieces alongside Bedat & Co’s elite clientele of socialites and business partners before being captivated by a mesmerising fashion display of the timepieces.

Bedat & Co. selects numbers to represent each collection to correspond to a particular philosophy or aesthetic appearance of the timepieces, making each collection unique and timeless.
