muloji17very good

my only sorrow is that Luanda´s historic downtown will be clogged with highrises sitting next to wonderfully old architecture. ..maybe Luanda should keep the historic inner city as a tourist and lesure zone with shops, cafés, bars, boutiques and restaurants (soemthing like a nice Havana)..and build a new financial district in Luanda Sul.

It would be sad to see all the old acrhitecture disappear.

I like the way Downtown Luanda is starting to develop. A good balance of historic and modern architecture is very attractive in my opinion, and I wouldn't mind seeing Luanda in this manner.

There are many good examples of business districts that have developed this way, including my two favorites: "The City" in London, and the Financial District in Boston.

Luanda should think about developing a financial district akin to that in Paris (only sexy glass faced buildings are allowed!!) and very nice designs...one of the best fiancial districts - and by far the best in entire Europe - because of the all glass facade buildings

new tower approved

For many people La Défense is too boxy, Frankfort is a better example in Europe IMO, more diversity anyway la défense is more impressive :

Frankfurt

But Luanda is going to looks like it :

Benidorm

But i think that Luanda will be Better than Benidorm beacause of better architecture (thinking about Kinaxixi , Ambiente, Espirito Santo, intercontinental hotel and casino)

@Matthias About La Défense (Paris) the supertall that you posted (phare tower) is approved but rumors says that this project may be reduced or canceled...

WOW... when I think of Europe's architecture I always picture it flat and old fashioned buildings. The pics posted by Crash2010 and Matt just got me by surprise but I'm glad that Europe is catching up. Matt in your 3rd pic. that building is very impressive... that is the kind of buildings I wanted to see rising in Luanda... real art and not just the same old. vfG... if the rumors about La Defense are true, it is a very sad news, because I was looking forward to personally see that beauty.
Guys don't you think that these type of buildings some how would kill the beauty of Europe's architecture? Should Europe remain flat?

About Luanda, I agree with you Matt, they should preserve the old architecture instead of just demolishing like what they did with Kinaxixi.... a tremendous work of architecture, perhaps one of the best in Africa and I'm not exaggerating. From someone who knew that building inside out, its sad to know that it no longer exists. Did you know that the old Kinaxixi was considered the best work of architecture built by the portuguese outside of Portugal?

Cheers

I think these tall buildings are fine in Europe as long as they are all kept in one area distinct from historical zones.

No need to catch up because La Défense was first conceived under French president Georges Pompidou... some even say plans go back to General De Gaulles it is very sexy and impressive quarter

for more pictures of La Défense, I invite you to take a look at this...hopefully , Luanda will look like this , too or even better than this

Actually Europe is more dense than USA
for exemple :
Lyon density : 9761 /km
New York city density : 10 292/km
Paris density : 20 433/km

A picture of Lyon to see the density in flat buildings :

Picture of La Duchère, a dense suburb of Lyon

urban transportation is more developped too.

More projects from La Défense :

Tour Signal : 300m

Tour AXA : 240m reconstruction

Tour Majunga 195m

Tour Air2 220m

Tour D2 160m

Air2+D2 = R2D2 french humour...

A supertall project, this model have been cancelled, we are waintin for new renders in 2009 :

Outside la Défense :

tours levallois

Renovation of Les tours du pont de Sèvres ...

Tour Triangle (Amazing)

The best Skylines of Europe in the future IMO :
Paris IDF
London
Warsaw
Frankfurt
Liverpool
Madrid
Rotterdam
Kyiv (maybe the tallest of European Union)
Riga

I think that Europe is not a bad model for Africa, but Africa need to have it own personality in therm of architecture... because Africa has a history...

Agree with you vfG...I wonder how can Europeans have space to build these skylines, if Europe is so crowded. We all know that they lack space...so there is only one answer to that....demolishing of pure European architecture...it's sad but I might be wrong though
