Hello to everybody.
Spain is one of the countries with more castles in the world, as a result of 700 years of war against muslims. This is a little tribute to our ancestors, heirs of wisigoths', romans' and celtiberians' legacy, who fought and died in order to liberate southern Spain (and they finally did ).I hope you like it. "El cid"(A very famous spanish knight who died fighting muslims in the south). ![]() ![]() ![]() Alcázar de Segovia Castle of Peñafiel ![]() ![]() Castle of Loarre ![]() Castle of Aljafería Castle of Alarcón ![]() ![]() Castle of Sigüenza Castle of Malpica de Tajo ![]() Castle of Coca ![]() Castle of La Mota Castle of the Knights Templar Castle of Fuensaldaña Castle of Chinchón ![]() Castle of Manzanares El Real ![]() Castle of Granadilla Castle of los Condes de Oropesa Castle of la Moratalla Castle of Butrón City of Ávila ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Those Spanish castles are pretty amazing. Quite a few have been used as a backdrop for movies for a reason. The settings are amazing as well. These are real castles as well and not the palaces that some people mistake for a castle.

Wawel
This is a symbolic place of great significance for all Polish people. The Royal Castle and the Cathedral are situated on the Hill. Polish Royalty and many distinguished Poles are interred in the Cathedral and royal coronations took place there. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

wonderfull castles. especially the ones from romania and spain were impressive.
I'll just add a few from belgium since this country has not yet been featured in this thread yet ^___^. They are somewhat less impressive. but i hoe everybody still likes them ![]() ![]() Ham Castle in Steenokkerzeel. An unusual keep from around 1500 CE. The towers of teh bailey belong to a much older castle (ca 12th century) that once stood here. ![]() Beersel Castle near Brussles. One of a ring of castles that were built to defend the city. One of the best preserved examples of a late medieval castleh in Belgium. ![]() Vorselaar Castle near Lier. The walls and gate tower were removed in the 18th century when the medieval building was made more inhabitable. The mock tudor entrance in the middle is a rather poor 19th century addition. Despite these changes, it remains one of the best preserved medieval castles in Belgium. ![]() A view of the 16thcentury castle in the village of st Pieters' Rode, near Leuven, Belgium. The tower belongs to an earlier castle and dates from the 13th century. The lower part of the tower was the only structure that survived a fire in 1489 CE. The castle was rebuilt around 1500 CE. ![]() Leefdaal Castle, near Leuven, is an interesting example of a castle mostly (re)built after the middle ages (1662) but that still features prominent defensive architecture. Eventhough the normal story is that at the end of the middle ages, castles lost their defenive capabilities because of new weapons, the southern Netherlands remained an unstable and dangerous region. Because of this, a lot of castles from teh 16th and 17th centuries still featured walls, moats or arrow slits and gun portals rather than windows in some outer walls. Here you can still see the round towers that once belonged to the wall that surrounded the castle. The square tower is much older than the rest of the castle, dating from the 12th century.
