My City's Suburbia

Hi there... my closest major city is Cape Town, South Africa. I may get flack as it doesn't look what most cities elsewhere on the continent may look like, but hey, it's great that Africa is such a diverse continent!

For some reason, Cape Town kind of reminds me of Los Angeles.

Smaller... about 3.5million people. But, the climate is similar... Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. We get a bit more rain than LA. But our climate is identical to places like San Luis Obisbo and Morro Bay further up the CA coast. Have lots of modeling shoots, film shoots and the like here every summer season (obviously not as many as there). Have the vineyards and the like, just like CA.

A very common sight in Cape Town's downtown...

in terms of urban landscape and cleanliness and natural setting, Cape Town is just amazing and just unbeatable in Africa, it like a First World City (apart from townships , of course). Itīs so sad that not every other African city can look like this: so orderly, clean, well-maintained and well-planned! A sheer delight to the eye, knowing that Africa can be so incredibly livable.

It can be done! Africa can do this, I have full confidence in our continent... Let's just hope we can get some amazing, inspirational and inspired leadership in our countries'. I'll try to get some pics of Jo'burg suburbs tomorrow... after all, it is sub-Saharan Africa's biggest metropole.

its very ez to do when u spend the nation's money on just 13 percent of the population and make their living environment reflect that fact

No, not rich. It's considered "ordinary" Middle Class

Rich areas would be the Tygervalley area, some parts of Durbanville, Camp's Bay area etc.

Great pics.

Those aerials of Cape Town and Johannesburg remind me of California too!

You're Poison... please do not ruin yet another thread with your ignorant, bigoted, outdated idea of what a diverse 21st Century Africa can be. If you can't keep a good thread civil, shove off.

I'm trying to post nice pics here for kind people you don't hate that just want to know more, see more and gain insight. If you don't have a question, or some insight or pics into other African cities, LEAVE!

I'm a true South African, I prefer to see EVERYONE of all shades, religions and cultures. This type of disgusting mentality is what's causing the genocide in Darfur, because some Sudanese think Sudan belongs to the ethnically Arab and that the black Africans don't belong there. This mentality is dangerous and has NO place in a civilised world anymore.

Can I educate some people please. Cape Town does not have a majority black African populous and never has. The Zulu's, Xhosa's and Sotho's only made it as far south as the Great Fish River east of Port Elizabeth. White people and coloured people (ancestry of white/Malay/Khoi mostly) are in the majority in Cape Town.

In other provinces in SA, black Africans are in the majority, in the Northern Cape and Western Cape, coloured and white Africans are the majority population group. Let South Africa be what it is: A diverse nation of peoples of all kinds.

Now leave it at that, if you continue to argue these racial points, it just makes one look petty, hateful, ignorant and living in the past (where what you look like matters - take some cues from America, as this time they got something very right!)

EDIT: Lydon, you know how the African forums can be, please please don't feed the monster and stir the hornet's nest. You know you'll only get negative feedback

+1

Let's leave this thread for what it was originally was supposed to be, and let's remember that it's in the photos forum.

Just ignore them and they'll go away. If they don't, just report them or PM a moderator.
