Here's a picture from Geoeye. It's a bit older (November 23, 2008) but it shows the outline of the outer islands.

enjoy

i have reversed the colours and made the picture a bit darker, so we can see the islands outlines better. Seems like every of the waterfront islands already have their outlines.

It must be the construction of the breakwaters for the outher 3 islands. Also think that the space that needs to be filled on the first island will be done after all the breakwaters are ready because it looks like they are shipping the breakwaterrocks from the first island.

Nakheel pledge on Waterfront project homes

by Andy Sambidge on Monday, 02 February 2009

Nakheel, Dubai’s master developer, has pledged to hand over more than 1,000 new homes at its Waterfront development by the end of the year.

The 1,042 homes form part of the Manarah District in Badrah, Waterfront and the Manarah district makes up more than one third of Badrah, the first active gateway to the Waterfront – the world’s largest masterplanned waterfront development.

Waterfront covers an area twice the size of Hong Kong and will become home to 1.5 million people.

Much of the major utilities infrastructural work at stage one of Manarah is also now complete – with 75 per cent of the networks and facilities in place to provide drinking water, and 80 per cent of sewerage, storm-drain and irrigation infrastructure complete.

In addition, two thirds of the telecommunications network has been installed. Work on the community’s transport systems is also underway, with 15 per cent of the single and dual carriageways in the district now complete.

Marwan Al Qamzi, managing director Waterfront & Palm Jebel Ali, Nakheel said: “We’re making great progress here at Badrah. More than 1,000 new homes in Manarah are now taking shape, with residents set to take ownership by year end.

"Of course, our communities are about much more than simply buildings so we’re also busy laying down all of the essential elements for successful living environments – from roads to water, energy to entertainment.”

There are four districts in Badrah, each connected by a central boulevard: Manarah includes residential, educational and civic amenities; Diaa has a high proportion of residential buildings and amenities; Talla has a larger mix of offices; and Bahaa focuses on retail and leisure elements.

Nakheel says 1,042 Manarah homes 40% complete

By Staff Writer on 2/2/2009

Nakheel has announced that construction of 1,042 new homes in Manarah District in Badrah, Waterfront is nearly 40 per cent complete.

Many of the major utilities infrastructural work at stage one of Manarah is also now complete – with 75-per cent of the networks and facilities in place to provide drinking water, and 80 per cent of sewerage, storm-drain and irrigation infrastructure complete. In addition, two thirds of the telecommunications network has already been installed.

Work on the community's transport systems is also under way, with 15 per cent of the single and dual carriageways in the district now complete. Marwan Al Qamzi, Managing Director Waterfront and Palm Jebel Ali, Nakheel said: "We are making great progress here at Badrah. More than 1,000 new homes in Manarah are now taking shape, with residents set to take ownership by year end. Of course, our communities are about much more than simply buildings so we are also busy laying down all of the essential elements for successful living environments – from roads to water, energy to entertainment.

"A critical element in all Waterfront projects is sustainability, and Manarah will become an exemplar development for environmental efficiency and a welcome home for those striving for a greener lifestyle."

The Manarah district makes up more than one third of Badrah, the first active gateway to the Waterfront – the world's largest master planned waterfront development.

Waterfront covers an area twice the size of Hong Kong and will become home to 1.5 million people. There are four districts in Badrah, each connected by a central boulevard: Manarah includes residential, educational and civic amenities; Diaa has a high proportion of residential buildings and amenities; Talla has a larger mix of offices; and Bahaa focuses on retail and leisure elements.

While designed with sustainability and affordability as key factors, Badrah will be built to very high standards.

All buildings will meet Leed (Leadership in Environmental Design Green Building Rating System) ratings performance standard as a minimum. This will result in lower maintenance and running costs as energy and water consumption is substantially decreased.

"...become home to 1.5 Mio. people"...?!?!?!?

That is a good joke! Dubai's population is 1.5 Mio! Now they want to double, where shall the people come from? The population is shrinking, not rising.

those nearly invisible outer lines of rest of the islands suggest that this is gonna be a success the first time round, unlike the world.

Good pics, Imre. At least there is still some work going on here, unlike so many other locations. Let's hope they keep on working too!

That picture is very old. They are rising from the water; not disappearing.

Has anybody who owns property in the waterfront directly with Nakheel heard if things are happening or are they giving people's money back?. Does anyone know anyone who has taken any legal against Nakheel?
