The culture in the caribbean side of Costa Rica is just like that and I guess the same happens in the Caribbean side of Nicaragua, Honduras and I guess Guatemala

Well, I am pretty sure it is not the same. There might be differences between them but they have some things in common such as the language, dances, etc.

Ah, I just thought to use english in a belizean thread

Yeah, a lot of people speak spanish but the language is common is english.
As far as I know belizean24 speaks no spanish.

I think over 50% of the belizean population speaks spanish but the other % does not. In the other hand, 100% of them speak english

You might be right, some native americans might be still using their native languages and some hispanic inmigrant may remain speaking spanish but the % might be close to 100%.

This is a topic I enjoy talking about. Spanish is the most spread language in the country however the belizean government stills refuse to declare spanish as an official language. Let's remember that Belize belongs to the Commonwealth and I am not sure if they have any restrinction about having two official languages wich would be weird as Canada does have two (english/french) or New Zeland (English/Maori).

Maybe Belizean24 could tell us a bit more about the linguistic situation up there :P

Yea most of the people in Belize speak spanish and look of Latino but everyone speaks more the 2 or 2 langauges. Belize is actually not all that different from the rest of Central America.. Some Belizeans don't speak english nor Belizean-kriol.

This should answer your question tillor87.. I tottaly disagree with her about Jamaican patois and Belizean-Kriol Being kinda samilar. Also the Jamaicans coming to Belize cause there were very very few Jamaican who came to Belize. This will explain the Languages and if you can't get it through this clip then you can check out the Wikipedia which I am going to link cause it's hard to explain how the langauge thing work in Belize.

Wow.. then I don't know why the belizean government ignores that huge spanish speaking population. I think they shall declare spanish as an official language together with english. I don't know if it is that the belizeans are against this or what but it might be politicaly correct I think.

Tillor84 I can only catch on to spanish but I do understand and write in Belizean-Kriol fluently. My father is from Belize city which there they speak more in Kriol then spanish but spanish is heard all over the nation no matter where you go in Belize. There are many langauges in Belize but the most spoken are Spanish and Belizean-Kriol. English is considered the official language but spanish and Kriol are whats spoken in Belize among the Belizeans. In school english is what you have to speak in at all times because it's so many languages that spoken that peoplle talk to their kids to at home that it sometimes become a first language and hard for some people to communicate...So yea thats why it is the way it is..Kids can only speak English at school but when out they speak whatever they feel like speaking.
