I'm a soccer fan, but love football all the same. These are two different sports, with different type of fans. Football will never have Ultras and it doesn't need them. When you have 80,000 fans the place gets loud enough. Football fans are passionate enough, they don't need to wave flags or flares in other supporters faces to prove it.

And I agree, Dinamo Zagreb has some of the best fans in the world... maybe outside of Crvena Zvezda.

I see you Americans don't need good atmosphere, such a shame
Please don't compare European Soccer teams to American Football teams, fans, stadiums, etc.

Chelsea, Club America to play at Dallas Cowboys' stadium in July

01:39 PM CDT on Tuesday, March 24, 2009

By CARLOS A. NAVA / Al Día
cnava@aldiatx.com

Officials from Mexico's Club America and Premier League attraction Chelsea announced Tuesday a July 26 exhibition match between the soccer powers at the Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington.

The clubs will tour the U.S. as part of the inaugural World Football Challenge, which will also include Italian crosstown rivals AC Milan and Inter.

America and Chelsea will play the sixth and final contest of the round-robin tournament, which begins with a match between the Mexico City club and Inter on July 19 in Palo Alto, Calif. Other cities in the tour are Pasadena, Calif., Atlanta, Baltimore and Foxborough, Mass.

"We know that we will have the honor of playing in one of the most impressive stadiums in the world," Club America president Michel Bauer said from New York. "We all know what the Cowboys mean to that city. We will give it all we've got." . . .

More at the jump above.

Off-topic:

The bad news:

Thanks to the MLB Texas Rangers playing on week one, the new stadium will have to make it's NFL debut on Week 2.

BTW, the Raiders will be the opponent for the 1st Thanksgiving Day game at the new stadium.

Yeah I'm sorry but nobody thought Baltimore was going to be good this year. They had a horrible 2007, came in with a rookie head coach, and started a rookie qb that played in D-1 AA football. Baltimore was just as bad in 2007 as Oakland was in 2008. In fact, Baltimore was picked 3rd in their division.

Baltimore always has a great defense. But this is Oakland, the team with a owner who calls plays down to the side lines during the game and threatens to fire the coach if he does not run it.

Back on Subject. Work really is going on 24/7 here. I watched them put in seats on the web cam at 2:30 this mourning. what was i doing up? Not sure.

O, and to add this.
Last time the Dallas cowboys opened a new stadium (Texas Stadium) they won the super bowl that year!

Stadium Scoop: Big screens start coming into focus

12:00 AM CDT on Friday, March 27, 2009
By JEFF MOSIER jmosier@dallasnews.com

ARLINGTON – PC users fear the catastrophic failure that often accompanies the "blue screen of death." But the electric blue backgrounds now seen on video screens at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium are a good sign.

This week, technicians with Mitsubishi, which manufactured the mammoth $40 million screens, have started conducting burn-ins and calibrations. Testing of the east screen and west screen, which can be seen from Collins Street, started in the last few days, and work on the larger sideline screens is expected to begin next week.

Stadium construction manager Jack Hill said crews are making sure all the modules in the screens work properly and are burning at the same rate. They don't want any "hot spots" where one area is much brighter than another.

"They haven't started putting any video up there yet," Hill said. "This [testing] will go on for several weeks."

The NFL's first center-hung video board is 71 feet tall, stretches between the 20-yard lines and weighs 1.2 million pounds. The end zone screens are 28 ½ feet tall and 50 ½ feet wide.

There's no word yet on what images would be the first ones played on the screens. Hill said it would be up to Mitsubishi to decide what footage would be best for judging and tweaking the performance.

Stadium on TV

From the beginning, the Cowboys stadium had received attention far beyond ESPN and the newspaper sports pages. It's been followed closely by construction, financial and other specialty publications.

Now, the Science Channel is jumping into the fray. The first episode of the new season of Build It Bigger, premiering April 20, will focus on the Cowboys stadium, which is believed to be the largest domed stadium in the world.

The show will look at stadium highlights, including the giant video board, the world's largest operable glass doors and the retractable roof.

Milestone of the month

There are no hungry customers at the new stadium yet, but about 40 members of the food staff started work there this week. They are starting weeks of training in the use of the new kitchen equipment and learning their way around the stadium.

They'll also be busy testing electrical outlets, calibrating freezers and ovens, and making sure that the equipment – from coffee makers on up – works properly.
