Medjimurje region, northern Croatia
Medjimurje, Croatia
Medjimurje (Međimurska županija, Muraköz in Hungarian) is a triangle-shaped county in the northernmost part of Croatia. In the western part of the county, there are slopes of Alpine foothills, while toward the east it touches the flat Pannonian plains. It shares borders with Slovenia and Hungary, with Austria just over the corner.The eastern limits of the county are near the town of Legrad. The closest cities are Varaždin, Koprivnica, Nagykanisza, Murska Sobota, Bjelovar, Maribor, and Graz, in all three states. ![]() Cakovec - capital city of county : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pregrada : ![]() ![]() ![]() Prelog : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Klanjec : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Miscellaneous images of villages and churches of Medjimurje region : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bezanec : ![]() Budrovec : ![]() Bartolovec : ![]() Donja Voca : ![]() Macinec : ![]() Cehovec : ![]() ![]() Cukovec : ![]() ![]() ![]() Cirkovljan : ![]() ![]() Mackovec : ![]() Miholjanec : ![]() Draskovec : ![]() ![]() ![]() Kotoriba : ![]() Novo Virjev : ![]() ![]() ![]() Oporovec : ![]() ![]() Sveta Marija : ![]() ![]() ![]() Ludbreg : ![]() Pribislavec : ![]() Petrijanec : ![]() Koprivnicki Bregi : ![]() Kozarec : ![]() ![]() Podturen : ![]() ![]() Otok : ![]() ![]()

Wonderful landscapes and architecture (and some familiar-sounding town names
)! The hills remind me of Slovenia's Dolenjska or Bela Krajina, but the Pannonian architectural influences also bring Prekmurje or even some recent pics of Slovakia to mind. Thanks for sharing it with us!BTW, how does this region's level of economic development compare with other parts of Croatia? |

Medjimurje is one of the healthiest counties in the country, well organized and known by very very hard working people, although by GDP it is ranked 8th of 21 counties in Croatia. What surprises me is that their average incomes are for 25 percent lower than in all other Croatian regions. Medjimurje has also built strong economical ties with their neighbours in Prekmurje and Stajerska (Slovenia), Hungary and southern Austria.

Very nice pics Bubach! This part of Croatia I think is also one of the most densely populated and of course has a good level of economic development and growth.

Sadly Austrians and Hungarians didn`t develop occupied territories like their own towns and cities. This way you have maybe one nice church and the rest is well...

It's just a rural area. Anyway, there are hundreds and hundreds of churches in Medjimurje and a number of castles but thought it would be way too many pics to post here

yeah but even bigger towns look quite the same. I'd say only Zagreb is exception in those parts of Croatia (outside of Dalmatia).
