Yeah, I've been hearing this also for a long time that Dominos is coming to Lahore, but I don't see any sign of it yet

Does anyone know when they are actually coming to Lahore and where they are opening the location?

Thumbs up A foodie’s guide to restaurants in Nazimabad, Karachi, Pakistan

A foodie’s guide to restaurants in Nazimabad, Karachi
Monday, April 27, 2009
By Fasahat Mohiuddin

Karachi

Nazimabad, one of the earliest settled areas of Karachi, is home to some of the best Pakistani and Chinese food restaurants. The area is known for its sheermal, roghni roti, baisan ki roti and taftan. Food catering is yet another thriving business here – commonly known as bawarchees. These barwarchees are known to provide degs (dishes) at an extremely short notice.

Hammad Pakwan Centre is one such example of the vast variety of catering outlets found in Nazimabad. Located at Gole Market, the cook at Hammad Pakwan Centre has been doing this for the last 25 years, said its owner Mujeeb ur Rehman. “In fact, he creates his own recipes and personally supervises the cooking,” added Rehman. Specials include chicken qorma, karhai gosht, chicken biryani, kheer, lauki ka halwa, gajjar ka halwa, falooda kulfi as well as different kinds of ice cream.

Rehman told The News that the per deg rate is proportionate to the weight – for example, a deg of chicken qorma (about 10kg) costs Rs4,000 to Rs5,000. “The costs have gone up so business is a little slow especially since the economic conditions are not too good at the moment,” he explained. “So we are sometimes forced to compromise on the quality of food. It’s simple really – jitna gurr daalo gey, utna meetha hoga.” However, he insisted that few complaints about that have been received so far.

Another hugely popular food joint here is Prince Snacks that remains open till 2 a.m. Having been around for the last 36 years, Prince Snacks is known for its ice cream and juices. “We used to sell banana shakes for Rs1.25 and sugar cane juice for four annas back then,” said the owner, Jamal. Today, the same banana shake is sold for Rs35. Besides ice creams and juices, kabab roll, boti roll, chicken tikka, paratha, chapatti and fast food also features on the restaurant’s menu.

“I get a lot of customers from Defence, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Nazimabad and Gulistan-e-Jauhar,” said Jamal, talking about his clientele.

Also worth mentioning is the Karachi Naseem Hotel, located across the Nazimabad KESC office, which according to its owner (who hails from Malabar, India), was set up in 1965. Similarly, Café Al Hussain (behind the KESC office) is noteworthy because it is frequented by medical representatives (doctors and chemists), who stop there for breakfast before going to work. This café has been around for the last 40 years and is run by an Iranian man.

There are other similar shops in Nazimabad that are open till late and serve seafood, kabab parathas, nihari and haleem, to name a few.
