India's Most Populous Gangetic State
With a population of over 165 million, India's gangetic state of Uttar Pradesh is large enough to be its own country. Although not as urbanized as the rest of India, it does have its bright spots.
Here are images from Kanpur - a densely populated city of over 2 million that is probably quite unknown to most outside India. However, it is home to one of India's premier science/engineering universities and is an important industrial/commercial city in the northern plains. (Images taken from web blogs, 'Kanpur Properties' and other builder/developer sites - all thnks to the orig. photgraphers) So here goes: A relatively recent mall ![]() A popular multiplex ![]() ![]() A new university auditorium ![]() ![]()

Ahmedabad, Baroda, Rajkot and Surat are cities in Central India, near perhaps to this city (those photos above)?

Lucknow, the state capital
Christos, A-TOWN, Juancito - thnks for all ur comments.
Here are some pics from the city of Lucknow (the state capital). Both Kanpur and Lucknow are located east of Delhi (India's capital) and south of Nepal - so they are in the North-Central Gangetic plains in the state of Uttar Pradesh. (Pictures borrowed from builders/developers sites and web blogs - all thnks to the orig. photographers). First, a couple of historic (19th C) buildings to give you an idea of Lucknow's older heritage: ![]() ![]() A hotel inspired by the architecture of the past:

Residential Lucknow
Old Lucknow's housing estates typically looked like this:
