Jackson moves to Amwaj

Michael Jackson has shelled out £860,000 for his own island paradise in Bahrain.
The King of Pop, who quit the US after being cleared of child sex abuse in June, is expected to live on the quarter-acre site permanently.

The secluded area is situated on Bahrain's Amwaj Islands, a project of three man-made islands that has taken five years to complete.

Jackson's purchase includes two separate villas with seaside views, the New York Post reported. The affluent island features top restaurants, a private hospital and school, parks, golf courses and private boat moorings.

Jackson has been living in Bahrain as a guest of the country's royal family and has kept a low profile except for several trips to London.

This will boost sales in Amwaj although it has attracted strong interest way before Jackson even came to Bahrain. Same thing applies to Durrat Al Bahrain, even before Jenson Button bought a house there. I don't think this will change the prices of the houses there.

Ex-chauffeur bids pop king farewell

MICHAEL Jackson's former chauffeur in Bahrain bid an emotional farewell to his beloved star as he watched his memorial service on TV from his hometown in India.

Keralite M V Ramesh, who was one of an estimated one billion people worldwide who watched the live event at Los Angeles' Staples Centre, said the world had lost a very kind man.

He was the star's personal driver in Bahrain from March to May 2006, ahead his move to Europe and Japan.

Mr Ramesh, now a shopkeeper at a Budaiya cold store, said it was difficult to watch the memorial service, but was still glued to his television.

"It's very sad," he said, speaking to the GDN from Kannur, where he is on holiday.

"I heard about it on the news on the TV and it made me very sad. He was a very nice man. I liked him a lot.

"I can't believe that he is dead. He was kind and told me that I could talk to him about my problems, my family problems."

Mr Ramesh said it was still hard to believe that he had worked for the star, describing him as a "kind person".

He said the singer presented him with toys for his eight-year-old son Thanuj in India.

The boy also joined his father in mourning the singer while watching the memorial service in India.

"We watched the TV and my son was sad when he understood what happened and asked me why it happened," said Mr Ramesh.

He said Jackson liked him as soon as they met and he and his children Prince Michael, Paris Michael and Prince Michael Jackson II, also known as Blanket, always treated him well.

"A friend had told me that he was looking for a driver and he arranged for me to meet him.

"When I met him, I found him to be very nice. He made me drive them (the star and his children) in Seef, Hamala and Juffair, in his Rolls Royce.

"When we returned to the Hamala palace, he told me that he liked my driving and that I'm a safe driver."

During their stay in Bahrain, the Jacksons visited a number of places, including the Al Areen Wildlife Park and Reserve, the Gulf Hotel and the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa, GŽant Hypermarket and Seef Mall, where Jackson shopped for clothing and sunglasses, said Mr Ramesh.

"He liked to take the children to buy toys and he bought cooling glasses (sunglasses) because he liked them very much.

"In the car they listened to (his own) songs and other music also."

The troubled 'King of Pop,' who died two weeks ago in Los Angeles, had been a close personal friend and guest of Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Shaikh Abdulla said in a statement following the star's death that the world had lost a unique talent and a giant in the music industry.

Jackson had moved to Bahrain in June 2005 and made the country his legal home before leaving in May 2006.

He was later accused of walking out on a business deal with 2 Seas music label, a joint venture with his brother and Shaikh Abdulla.

It was also alleged that he did not deliver an auto-biography and a series of shows he had committed.
