this idea is evoked after they found two remainings of the fort.

RM12.8 Mln Approved For Rebuilding Of Kota Melaka Fort

MELAKA, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The federal government has approved a RM12.8 million allocation for the reconstruction of Kota Melaka fort that was built during the Portuguese or Dutch colonial era in Bandar Hilir here.

Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said phase one of the rebuilding work was expected to begin in April or May.

The Cabinet had agreed for the National Heritage Department to quickly draw up the plan with the assistance of historians in Melaka and several archeologists.

He told reporters this after attending a dinner hosted by state Wanita Umno at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh last night.

The Kota Melaka fort was discovered during the construction of a RM21 million revolving tower last October. Following this, the tower project had been moved to a nearby location.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Ali Rustam said the state government welcomed the fort's reconstruction as it would become a new attraction for tourists and historians.

Meanwhile, Dr Rais said the federal government had also allocated RM8 million for the Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba Memorial to be built in the state in appreciation of the former deputy prime minister's contributions.

Abdul Ghafar had also served as Melaka chief minister.

Peruntukan RM12.8 Juta Bina Semula Tembok Pertahanan Kota Melaka

The fort shouldn't had be demolished in the first place by the British long ago. Imagine if there's a continuous defensive wall around Melaka city, can be a mini nanjing.

Did they actually excavated up the foundations and rebuilt the fort wall like they planned in 2007? 12mil was budgeted, just wondering.
